How do I even begin to install?

I know nothing about computers. Idk if it just isn't working or where to even begin/proceed. I have a windows laptop. I've never had to put so much effort into installing a game and if anyone can give me the steps that would be awesome, because I don't want to have wasted $20 on a game I can't play. Like which files do I install? All of them? Two? Which ones. What's SDL? How do I get it all to work so I can play?

1. download this: OneLife_v65_Windows.exe    Windows self-extractor
2. double click with left mouse button - it will extract the files  into the folder for example "OneLife_v65"
3. go into the folder and leftclick with the mouse on the "OneLife.exe" - this starts the game

thats it ... easy ... no SDL ...

For me that opens a crappy windows explorer program that simply asks if I want to save or open, and replicates itself whichever option I choose.

What? Which step?

Is peak Spanish, sorry for the grammar:

First: Go to downloads and cut the game folder, and the (OneLife_v71 _Windows)

Second: Past it in the desktop, or in my document.

Third: Open the game folder and find OneLife .
          Right click on it and,
          then select - send to Desktop (create a shortcut)

Fourth and last. Go to desktop and double click on OneLife icon. Hopefully that will solve all your problems.

Thanks! Just abandoned my mother and died to come thank you. Followed those steps and finally got on! This info really should be someplace it can be seen on the way in.

this I always have .. but after changing the properties it is able to update but after that, the hole folder is unwriteable again ... I don´t know why ... it is OK for me .. but not understandable ... I guess it is a windows-problem.
