Life Tokens And Choice Screens

Alright, so if you didn't know, the maximum possible number of life tokens went up to 48 on Sunday.

Yeah, so how much value does a token have when it's cheap?  Not much, if any.  It happened to a Twitch streamer this past winter that he ran out of life tokens on stream, which, so far as I can tell, resulted in the number going up to 24 from 12.  Who knows if anyone ran out of like tokens this weekend when it was at 24?

The whole system of life tokens has been flawed from the beginning.  The whole concept of players having extremely crippled ability to select their initial conditions has always been flawed.  And even since life tokens, there still have existed players like Tarr who /die to Ginger so that they can go fishing.  Or players who tried to /die to an Eve camp scenario.  Or players wanting to see a car or the most advanced towns would kill themselves, as from what I hear, Twisted did before there existed a /die command.  The concept of players not choosing their starting conditions isn't something that can get pushed on players, since they want to play a game and satisfy THEIR OWN desires/needs.

Also, the alternative is a choice screen of some sort.  It has another benefit that life tokens lack.  A choice screen could enable players to select their difficulty to some degree (even if it's just a race selection, since playing as brown is likely more easy than playing as white, due to the possibillty of getting bananas for oneself or for one's family).  Thus, a choice screen could turn down the difficulty for new players, while also enabling greater difficulty for more advanced players.  The new user Djauhne more-or-less confirms the first part of that statement here: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewt … p?id=10092

There's plenty of reasons why games far more popular than this one have modes and usually enable players choices with respect to how they start the game.

That this game doesn't have such a screen is one of it's longstanding problems.
