Maybe rivers could be done like this, start of a river from every 10 springs out (maybe more), use path finders to wind and join, they die out at x amount of distance and volume (for rivers that join). As far as crossing them it could take a joint effort of supply dropping into a bridge.

#2 Re: Main Forum » Suggestion - Wild Roads » 2019-11-17 03:54:01

Is there a mark from where someone is born and where they die? If so, possibly use a path finder from location A (birth) to location B (death). after x amount of players have taken this "path" create dirt road.

I dont think the server resets, I think my town was gone because of the decay of if no one sees it, it slowly disappears. I'm just assuming this because there were a few piles of logs left around my old town and it has been around a week since I was born in the rift. I think the animals are in the wrong bioms because things didnt reset when jason revamped the bioms. So now the only way you would lose a town is if you ran into the not being born inside the rift for a week thing like I had going on. Still wish I knew why it happened and why all at once now I'm born in it again. Also the above is all just guesses so rebuild at your own risk I think I'm gonna give it a shot, lol

That was me that you were born to tongue
It was like that last time with alot of animals in the wrong bioms. I went looking for my old town but everything was gone except some piles of logs. I started to rebuild a bit but didn't get far.

I doubt I've been cursed, I really haven't been playing much for months now. I logged into a low pop server and was actually some what enjoying my time there for the first time in for ever. Right after an update (the one that had the dug cactus bug) I was born outside the rift every time. Before I was born inside the rift in this server and able to return to my base and keep building it up. The reason I keep pressing the issue is because with out being born inside the rift there is not much point in me playing because I cant find my camp back. I was hoping Jason would reply with what changed or what is wrong and fix it but have had no luck.

#6 Re: Main Forum » born outside rift in low pop server » 2019-09-03 14:51:05

not the cactus bug, I'm wondering why I'm now born outside the rift every life.

#8 Re: Main Forum » born outside rift in low pop server » 2019-08-30 23:34:48

there were a bunch of dug cactus in all of the deserts

#10 Re: Main Forum » born outside rift in low pop server » 2019-08-29 15:01:18

Before the update that had the dug cactus bug, I was always born inside the rift on server seven. it would show x amount of years and 1 family.

when I log into server 7 I'm always born outside of the rift. The notification will pop up and say this arc is x amount of years old and 0 familys are alive. This has been happening every since the dug cactus bug. Is this the way its supposed to be now or is it a bug?

#12 Re: Main Forum » what is the end condition and did all servers get wiped? » 2019-08-25 10:39:28

what would cause this? I have been playing on server 7. If I lived to 60 I would be born again right next to my old body if I did not I would be born some where else inside its rift. Since last night I'm born outside the rift every time.

I was playing on a low pop server and had quite a bit going on. I'm wondering if all my hard work is gone now.

No, please don't touch unity. Jason's made the engine and knows about it, doing stuff in someone elses engine is always a lot, a lot more testing for each and every thing added.
Also, if he has not used unity a lot, it'd also take time learning that, its bugs and whatnot - I'd rather see improvements to the game instead of using lot of time learning unity engine and its quirks (also how it can minimize stuff moving between server-client etc etc).

It's just an option. It could be what he needs to be able to add interactive oceans and rivers to the game, it could be worse and be a waste of time. Unless you have messed around alot with programming I'm not sure how you have so much certainty that it would be that hard for him to look at it and figure it out. Some very popular games were made using unity.

What existing engine would you suggest?

As far as I'm aware, there has never been an engine that supports the specific needs of this game (2D MMO with aging animations), not to mention an editor which allows rapid import of hand-drawn sprites and rapid interaction authoring with no coding (which is needed if I want to add 50 to 100 new things in a given week, to eventually meet the 10K object goal).

We might imagine there's some engine out there that just magically supports advanced features like "oceans," but I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist.

Have you tried unity? since its free to down load and use it wouldn't cost anything but time to see if it would work well for you. But then you would have to decide if actually going through and using it for your game would be worth them taking a chunk of your profit. I don't know much about programming but as far as I did get with unity i would assume that someone that knows how to program could easily set up a custom editor that would make updating the game quick and easy.

When looking at the results of such a poll, I hope you will bear in mind the people who have already quit out of frustration/boredom/whatever other reasons (e.g., Breezeknight, Tarr, myself, etc).

It will come across as pretty disingenuous if you use a poll like this to suggest people support particular features when, in reality, many who would vote against such features have already done so with their feet.

This is something to keep in mind. I haven't really played at all over the last few weeks (once since the life cap). I'm still here in the forums in hopes that an update comes out that makes the game fun for me again.

Yeah i was excited about the choice screen and then it some how turned into this...

#19 Re: Main Forum » Rethinking the player's role in the game » 2019-06-05 04:48:52

Alot here in the forums will probably argue with this because over and over again I see "the game is supposed to be you just play with the hand your dealt". Well I dont see it that way, I slash die if it looks like a life that I'm not going to enjoy. It's my hour vs their few seconds of get rid of the bones. I don't believe I've ever hit that 200 in a day mark like some, but I do know that I have slashed died to become eve, because that is one of my favorite ways to play. Its one of the few lives in the game that you are actually free to choose and play with new ways to start things up.

you wanted us to address problems instead of solutions, so here is my problem and why I slash die. Not every life will be fun some more obvious than others right at the start. I feel like I was alot more open to trying out lives before the spring and come together updates. Before those if I was born into a situation I didn't like it was a lot easier to run off and do my own thing because heaven forbid your try anything different from the main style of play without being called a griefer or getting killed, even if its not hurting anything. Example, when i was newer I wanted to build a building. So I went a ways south of town used fertile soil and skewers to grow some wheat to make adobe I believe all I took from town was a bowl (they had sheep and where not hurting for supplies). Some chick runs down there and is like "ummmmm what are you doing???" So I told her not to worry about what I'm doing and to mind her own business and play her own game. She says it looks like organized griefing. Runs off and comes back with a bow to shoot me. This is one of many times in this game that i had a project in mind for the town and someone else in the game decides to police me, because there is only one way to do everything right?

So I think part of the problem is everyone has found one way to do things and that's the ONLY way to do them, which makes lives blur together and get boring and meaningless.  I'm still here because I have high hopes for this game and got a ton of good hours out of it. But lately I find myself playing very little because I quickly grow bored with most lives and quit for the day.

Thank you spoonwood that mod worked!
wondible, I think that was the problem with the awbz mod, it said I had the wrong version (I used the latest v235)

#21 Re: Main Forum » Community Crucible Modded Server » 2019-06-02 22:00:42

I thought i did do it the same way, but its not seeming to work. I tried to use the awbz mod

#22 Re: Main Forum » Community Crucible Modded Server » 2019-06-02 21:22:05

How do you add the zoom mod to this? Or is there a lot to it?

#23 Re: Main Forum » Community Crucible Modded Server » 2019-06-02 16:53:15

Will zoom be available in this mod? if so I'd give it a shot.

#24 Re: Main Forum » Ideas to start in-game trade » 2019-05-26 19:59:15

Yes, a lot of thought would need to be put into the value of the items. As far as how money would be created and destroyed, its created and backed by the item you sold to the store, its destroyed by purchasing an item from the store. One would simply not use the store if they felt they were better off spending their time gathering the items themselves. As far as not being able to carry as many rope that are worth the six iron you have on you, buy as much rope as you can carry and the rest you would keep as cash to use later on or hand down to your children. best break down of my idea is the store would serve as a large storage that people would have to put something into it if they wanted to take something out. As far as breaking it down to every little detail to make the whole idea work, no i have not done that. There would need to be a lot of thought put behind how do you keep people from greifing this system and not allow them to grab up every item in town and sell it to the store. One thought for this is possibly ownership of crafted items and free for all of base materials and if someone dies and does not will their possessions they become unowned items that cannot be traded at the store.

I agree, before the spring update eve lives were my favorite. Taking that away is going to kill it even more for me.
