Has anybody EVER seen a wooden house in game? I know I haven't, only in the tutorial, If Jason would make them super cheap to build, like stacking wooden planks together and using something to bind them, or doing the same with logs, then I would be fine with the non ideal insulation if they were actually cheap to build. all people use is adobe/stone walls, and I would argue that a stone wall should be harder to construct than a wooden one, but its 10x and fast/cheap to make stone buildings than wood.

how about making the walls only require the same recipe, but only a single rope to create, and you come out with 3 or 4 walls, and down the road you can put a piece of adobe on it to create an adobe wall (wattle and daub)

I make this post because we all know there have been some failed updates, the dog update, and the cart update come to mind, and last week Jason attempted to make the cart a more viable tool by making it cheaper, and yesterday I saw the first track kits in a town I have seen in months.

Jason you should keep trying to do this, while innovating on your game, revisit the dogs/ maybe allow breeding of dogs breeds that would work as hunting dogs (get them on a leash and they will near instantly pull rabbits out of holes, making it much quicker and efficient then using snares), allow people to name dogs so they become more personal to the village, and do something about the pitbulls too because they are really nothing but a source of grief.

but back to the wooden house thing, I would love to see more villages making more buildings, and you can hopefully understand how completely unviable to milkweed cost of making a wooden house is right now, so why don't you revisit it? I'm sure we would all appreciate it.

why does the scabbard have to be dropped on the ground? why not just keep it on your waist

I've been against swords from what I've seen, But I have an idea on how to make them more balanced, implement a cool new game meta, and an overall better game experience.

How about letting us craft a sheath? I've heard others complain about storing them In backpacks, so with the sheath, it would make a Sound effect when you click on your sword to pull it out and it would make a loud sound effect (SHIIIENG) like you can hear when somebody gets bitten or attacked, and only then after the animation it would then be drawn, but holding a sword you would drain YUM bars much faster then if you were not holding it, because fighting requires a lot of energy, and therefore would require more food so they can keep in fighting shape, and also slow your character down a bit since people don't typically sprint around while in a "sword fight"

This way, people have a chance to react instead of just getting run up on with a murder stick, the only way to counter act the being slowed down would be having a sheath to store it in.
Id like to see this evolve into a renaissance era within advanced society's, where it is common for almost everybody to carry a sword around on their waist, this is turns into a discipline thing where now the common man can have a reliable self defense weapon that cant be used to kill EVERYBODY.

Now people can be aware when somebody has the possible intent to murder everybody and in reaction could run to the scene, sword drawn to see what is going on.

Idk I think it would balance the weapon out a LOT if its going to be the crazy murder stick it is currently, and could develop into a cooler game experience overall experiencing high level towns where everybody is ready in a potential griefing scenario/ or a "war" with another village.

Idk I think it could be cool.

#8 Main Forum » okay, so why do we have cars? » 2018-12-14 03:15:30

as most of you know, primitive cars are being added into the next update, and seeing how im apparently banned off of the forums, and couldn't get an answer that actually relates to the point I'm about to make, I decided to take it to the forums and see if we can have a conversation here.

*yes i know this is jasons game, with him at the helm to do with it whatever he wants, doesnt mean i cant criticize*

Point#1 Its redundant currently
The game doesn't need cars at the moment, or really any other vehicle that doesn't improve storage capacity, cars are 95% redundant compared to the other mode of transportation in the game currently (horses), transportation in the game is currently only ever really used for two things, collection iron and milkweed, and occasionally some soil from a far away soil pit, that and ONE hardcore bunny farmer who could fill up a horse cart will baskets of bunny's without it running off in her.
besides that nobody ever uses the horse carts, late game civilizations always end up having stacks of horse carts with nobody hardly ever using them, ( because one person can get a colony a minimum of 7 stacks of iron in a lifetime by riding a horse and collection iron if they needed to , also nothing wrong with surplus vehicles, I'm js)
Horses running off on you can easily be countered by mounting your horse every few seconds while you work, it seems like a lot of work but so is literally everything in this game. I've never had a horse run off on me and be lost permanently.
Conclusion: Cars are just a QOL improvement over horses for very late game colony's for a job that isn't very important at all when your colony has 8 stacks of iron. (something thats super easy to get and i see all the time)

Point#2 There are things that should be in the game before cars
Jason at what point in the game, is everybody gonna be able to stop being primarily farmers? how are you going to implement killer atomic robots and monorails when our entire villages survival counts on a super annoying farm to maintain its livelihood, at what point does your experiments civilization modernize and using this newfound machinery and technology to make farming less of a hassle, and involve much less people?
Berry farming is everybody least favorite part of the game, nobody wants to do it, hardly anybody ever does do it, and it leaves one or two people to pick up the slack of a 15 man colony berry farm because its almost all dead, I dont have any specific suggestions that haven't been put out there, some kind of irrigation system, any kind of way to make berry farming for LATE GAME colony not such a hassle.
what about books? or furniture? or making buildings cheaper/viable?
Conclusion: Theres lots of QOL improvements that us society need, if we want to really be able to enjoy all this cool late game stuff you wanna add Jason.

Yknow besides that, I'm all for the new pump thats being added, its another step in the right direction, Ive owned this game for about a month at this point and i pretty much know almost everything (in-game wise, thanks one tech tree) i obviously love and have a passion for this game, if i knew the first thing about coding I would fucking LOVE to work on this game with Jason, I just dont want to see this become a pattern, so I'm address my concern now before it does/could. I think that every single update that came out since the steam launch when i started playing has been a good step in the right direction for this game, But adding the car because its the most requested feature was the wrong step for this update to take IMO, as apposed to working on making our villages more advanced and self sufficient.

Sorry for any cussing, this whole thing kind of irked me because like rust, ive really started looking forward to reading what Jason is adding to the game, and nobody really seemed to be getting the points Ive laid out.

This very much depends on the direction jason will want to give the game with the updates to come... are village to be set to be fighting over resources or are they about to be cooperating / trading and violence only as a means if one side tries to betray/steal.

I dont want people to just be having all out wars all the time for no reason, but i really enjoy the idea of sociteys working with each other to the best of their abilitys, BUT having an armory, or a defensive postions, or a stockpile of muskets in case a griefer, or another nation comes to you to do harm

fits with the current age of the game better than shotguns do imo

Why shotguns before muskets aha

yep, thats not clickbait, im actually curious about the introduction of firearms in this game, especially with the new bore machine. So our first implementation of firearms would probably be flintlock muskets, single shot, cumbersome to load, carry, and make, make the firing of the rifle a multi click operations (EX first click makes you assume the stance, second makes you prime the flint, third makes you fire)
I see this evolving into maybe 6 shooter revolvers or something, but with a tool engraving/naming system i think it would be pretty cool to have a personally engraved musket to pass down to your child, who you can teach to load, fire it.
It could be used as a replacement to the bow, using lessnatural resources and more machines parts, and the trade off could make it impossible to sew up a found from a musket because it will blow such abig hole in you, it could also be used for hunting and dispatching of bears and pests/ other people down the line
but im mostly curious about what the players think, if we can turn off the part of our brain that goes "but its just gonna be used to grief reeeee" could be said the same for the bow and the knive, i just wanna know what people actually think about firearms in this game
