This is Olivia Faith! Idk if you'll ever see this, but I managed to finish the bakery floor and walls (no doors, but I did manage to plant the milkweed for them before dying). I just wanted to say that I had a lot of fun during this life. Thank you for helping me out, and I hope you get reborn in Faith town to see our work finished.

Considering the game slid from highs of around 100 players when I first found out about it, to less than 40 by the time of steam release - a matter of about 3 months in which he added little of real importance - Jason may have to choose between having a dead game 'his way', or an active game that maybe pays attention to what players want.

It seems that every life I live lately is just a crowd of people mass feeding on berries and then dying off.

My most recent one started just like this. As soon as I could I ran off and got some rabbits to fry/make pies off of. After that was done, I realized we had a pen, but nobody was making compost of feeding the sheep. Actually, everyone was ignoring the pen's existence. So I try to start some wheat (we had carrots planted, fortunately), which took me like 20 years, because I was having kids every. Single. Minute. (Idk what people are saying, but the number of births needs a cap, especially now that we have so many players. It's no fun having like 20 kids in a single lifetime)

Of course, as soon as the wheat is grown, someone comes by and just cuts all of it. Welp.

I manage to make some compost regardless, thanks to the other like, two people that know what they're doing out of twenty.

At the same time, my fifth cousin is just sitting in the berry field, growing older, gorging on food, the only knife in her backpack. Mind you, we have like 3-4 sheep that need slaghtering, in order to make pies from their meat. Our food is running out again; another famine is almost certain.

I'm considering asking her for the knife. She looks like she is looking for a trustworthy person to have it, and really, I've been working hard my entire life. She's seen most of it, too.

She dies before I can ask her, though. And who does she pass the knife on to?

Not the hard-working woman that's been struggling hard in front of her eyes most of her life. No.

She gives it to a kid.

Just some random kid. Who's too young to hold a knife. Who also happens to be a noob who doesn't know how to use it. Who, before he even becomes a teen, goes off and dies somewhere far away from the settlement, and now our only knife is lost forever.

Aaand another famine hits after that.

I don't really blame the noobs. This game seems simple, but is deceptively complex, especially the crafting system. And some things just... don't make sense. They're not done the way they would be irl. You could say that if someone doesn't know how to do stuff, they should just spend more time in the tutorial, but who wants to be stuck on a boring tutorial when they're itching for the real experience? So they just finish it off quickly and get born in game, some not even knowing how to eat (how is that even possible?) and die. Again and again. And then, many of them leave, forever.

Maybe some sort of strategy guide in-game would help. Or a more intuitive crafting guide, maybe with pictures and such, and explanations for how the items being crafted can be used. And a guide search that actually works, lol.

Oh did you use a mod to write extra words on a paper and to show your age and stats? What mod is it?

It's Awbz's mod. It zooms in and out dynamically, and provides info about your age and lineage, and has some other functions, but it doesn't allow you to write more words on paper, haha. I just waited until I was around 50 years old, so I could say more, and then wrote the messages.

You can download the mod here: https://github.com/Awbz/OneLife

Once upon a time, a little boy was born to a kind woman called Robin Furry. He was named Sam, and was lovingly raised among the berry bushes of his village. Inquisitive and adventurous, as children tend to be, Sam began exploring his home as soon as his tiny hands could hold a basket. However, upon arriving at the south-eastern corner of the settlement, the boy came upon a truly grisly sight: a bear was lurking at the edge of his home, looking for easy prey!

Sam stopped in his tracks, panic gripping his heart. He took off towards the village center, to warn the others, and find a safe corner to hide. On the way, however, he noticed a completed, yet vacant sheep pen, made of beautifully crafted fences, and ancient, planted trees. Seeing the structure, a brilliant idea entered the child's mind.

Sam ran back to the edge of town. The bear was still there, lunging at a helpless man, who was trying to avoid it while carrying supplies back to the town. The boy took a deep breath, and began dancing and singing, just a few meters away from the beast, making as much noise as possible. The trick worked: Sam now had the bear's attention, and it lunged for him hungrily. He nimbly avoided its swipes, and began to lead it back to the sheep pen. It took him a while to get there, and he feared for his compatriots when it seemed the beast was eager to head into the town center for a quick snack. Finally, though, he managed to lure it into his trap without causing any casualties, and with unparalleled dexterity, the boy avoided its attacks once more, exiting the pen-turned-cage, slamming the gate shut, and building a large stone pillar in front of it for good measure.

The threat now neutralized, Sam stared at his new pet bear, as it wandered and explored its new home. He named the creature Jonathan, and proudly showed him to his mother, who congratulated the boy for his cleverness. Sam had grand plans for his bear; he wanted to open a zoo, to show his achievement to everyone, and maybe to even teach Jonathan a trick or two; it couldn't be all that different from training a dog, could it?

But the townsfolk were not too interested in the captured beast. And, unfortunately, Jonathan was not too keen on discipline, not even when he was fed delicious mutton over the fence. His way of expressing gratitude seemed to be swiping with his claws and growling angrily, and words like 'sit' or 'stay' were lost to him. Thus Sam, now a strapping young lad, gave up on his quest.

The young man went on to live a long, and somewhat uneventful life. He kept his mother, Robin, company during her final years; by the way she spoke to him, he gathered that he might just be her favorite child, which inflated his ego just a bit more. After her death, he buried her next to Jonathan's cage, whom the old woman had begun to consider part of the family. Even the beast seemed sad to see her go; although it might have been the delicious meat pie that Sam was holding that made Jonathan do the puppy eyes. He made her a headstone and wrote her a note:

And after that, seeing how some curious people would stop to look at Jonathan after all, he made a beautiful pamphlet using his unparalleled creativity and skill at calligraphy:

Sam eventually died of old age, satisfied with his grand achievements, right next to his mother's grave.

(The bear was a bit jittery and camera-shy, but you can still see its lil furry legs on the very top of the pics)
(Also yes, I do use a mod, but shhhhh I can't play without zoom)

#6 Re: Main Forum » Stop making oven pens!!! » 2018-10-11 21:41:27

I actually tried making a fence pen one life, as an experiment more than anything. I can tell you, it is *such* a hassle. The city I was born in had a lot of maple trees around, and it still took me almost my entire life to build it. And that was for a relatively small pen! (around 4x4, I believe?) While they're not as easily griefed as before (you now need to hit an east-west or a north-south with a mallet and a shovel in quick succession remove the fence, and I believe it's the same for corners), they're such a waste of a relatively rare resource. If the town I was living in wasn't already endgame when I started experimenting, and instead needed straight shafts for other, more important structures (such as wells), you bet I'd have been shot or stabbed.

Personally, I love the look of fence pens, but right now they're just not the optimal solution. If, say, a fence cost one straight shaft instead of two, they might be somewhat more viable.

(Edit: Nvm, I just realized you can *still* open east-west fences with just a click. Sorry if my experiments caused any accidents, lol.)

#7 Re: Main Forum » To be the son of Eve. » 2018-10-08 12:30:57

Son of Eve is actually one of my favorite roles. There's so much to do, while not having to worry about continuing the family line.

It's sad though if the camp fails and I end up being the last one alive.

This artwork is lovely, as is the story that inspired it. I've seen your other pieces on the fanart section of the forums, and they're all very impressive, congrats big_smile

I lived a similar life a few months ago. I don't remember too many details, but I was born in a big city, which had been turned into a battlefield. Murders everywhere. Since I had no weapon, I escaped to a small farm that a man was building alone to the south. I lived there until I was old; I told all my children of the city to the north, and warned them about the murders. They left to find it, and never returned. In the end, I returned to see what had become of the settlement, and found the city empty of people but filled with corpses, many of them bloody. I ended up being eaten by a bear wandering about, probably lured into the place by someone else earlier. I checked the lineage page afterwards, and learned that all five or six of my children had been murdered. It's still, to this day, the most violence I've witnessed in a single playthrough.

Thank you for this guide. I've seen many Eve camps in less than optimal positions lately, and this saves me the trouble of looking for a better place (and trying to convince others to come with me).

I just lived a life in that place. The puppies were a rather macabre sight.

I just wish they despawned after some time.

An interesting, well written story.

Unknown's last words are pretty ominous. So even that fits rather well.

#12 Re: Main Forum » N/A » 2018-09-17 15:38:51

Hello. I was Ifeanyichukwu. I remember this life, it started really well, but due to my siblings' incompetence, left a bitter taste in my mouth at the end.

Except for Rocky, who was obvious, I couldn't tell if they were noobs or griefers. Most of them were doing the stupidest things. I tried all my life to be productive, I was running around and fetching stuff most of the time to build a viable base, I even left most of my kids behind because I noticed just how many babies everyone else was having. But whenever I returned to the camp, it was messed up in some new way I couldn't have imagined if I hadn't actually seen it. I saw you, Lotus, trying to bring at least some order, and I really wanted to help you out, but so many things needed fixing and fetching and building because everyone. Was. Messing. Shit. Up. It was unreal.

I never managed to kill Rocky. He was running around constantly, and my shots missed him. I was also lagging hard at this point, which made it harder. He ended up starving soon though, but by then there were few of us left. When I died the base seemed to be in an acceptable shape, but the damage was done obviously, the Moists died a few generations later.

Idk. I wish I could've done more.

It feels like the last few days the game has been filled with griefers. I haven't lived a single life where I haven't either encountered one, or was born in a city that had just been griefed. My theory is that people are trying to go to Donkey Town, thinking it's some mythical city or something (I mean, the word 'town' is in the name, so I don't really blame them, lol).
