I am not Jason but I can tell you what I know.
- After the last server update all families died as usual and some Eves tried to retake empty cities all around the map. The Thinn Ginger family claimed the old Voltaire Black spot where the bell is now and has been there since. Some eves went south to the now deserted Corona town. Some other Eves like the Black Devilbiss family and the Lola Brown family tried with success to start new settlements (Lola family place is the rightmost NE spot on the map)
- Devilbiss city was taken eventually by the Brown Tino family when Devilbiss and Lola family died. For unknown reasons, Lola family died at some point and two small shortlived families (Butter and Spring) that I didn´get to know replaced them somewhere. Devilbiss died first and Tino familly absorved the other two smaller families. Gingers at Thinn spot kept their bussiness going.
- By now Killians appeared on a top spot on the map, forming the big green triangle for those 3 big families. For a few days they were the top placements. That meant Gingers, Browns and Whites had the best spots and were super well coordinated. Black families on the other hand had a tough time keeping up. They were mostly the ones far from the others and I can vouche they all had a batch of less than helpful players. Class, Cat and Darcy families reached top tech afaik but were mostly shortlived.
- All along this time the Eve spawn kept moving west along the big arrow, but the influence of the 3 cities in the triangle forced them not to go far from the 3000 line. In fact, several small settlements can be found along the 3k red rectangle. This shows that the ginger family has acted as an anchor for the player base as they are still very well oil supplied (The north part of the map still has oil as well as several missed spots east).
- Yesterday something happened, Killians and Tinos lost access to oil becuase GIngers were unable to keep the production up prompting a Killian exodus to their present location SW. Tinos died without a fight and the new Brown people settled also SW. Important to note: at least three engines were taken from Tino and Killian old towns (I wont say stolen becuase the towns were abandoned) and they were all scrapped for the lulz at Tinos. I know because I say the scrapp box and there was no iron shortage to justify.
- At the present time, Thinns Ginger family keep dominating the map in their current location. Their town is nice and they have no shortage of oil. Everyone else has to keep up to its beat and the Tino and Killian center place are still iron rich but deserted. (There is enough Iron for 3 engines at Killians and 1 at Tinos). The north and south part of the map are still mostly unexplored, we have barely reached 8 hundred north and south. The eve spawn keeps slowly moving west.
- I think it is uninteresting to just keep moving west with the Eves. The old Lola town was abandoned with a lot of water (they are short on iron though because someone took almost all the supply left). The Killian and Tino places are incredibly iron rich and there is enough oil east from the previous update because the evespawn advanced way too fast (we reached about 2200 from zero the previous week and we havent gone past 3000. I have seen no less than 6 iron veins untouched and 4 possible oil rigs.
- By now the most valuable resource in the game is people, no other resource really makes a town die, not even oil or water. There was enough oil around to keep the Killian and Tino family alive with the Thinn, but there wasn´t enough people capable of making it happen. The second most valuable resource in the game is novelty: people like to do new stuff and get bored in the towns that already reached peak tech. Interestlintly enough the permanency of the Thinn family has created a small window of opportunity for property to appear, and rudimentary trade has started to show as a common way to access unreachable goods. However, in my opinion, charity and sharing are still dominating in the game.
Do whatever makes you happy, each way is way better than a berry or carrot so it doesn´t matter if you are not at top efficiency, as long as the milk is eaten.

Thats too good and too simple to implement. Also it was not Jason´s idea so it will never be implemented
Being able to remove engine from a well to get iron with kerosene is useful tho. I got iron a few times by now like that, so I don't really want it being able to remove engine only from abandoned wells.
I would like 2 people need to work together to remove engine from a well, same with iron veins.
I´m not sure why but I dislike the idea of moving the engine from the well to the minning site. You may be right though, just unsure why It doesn´t please me.
Here’s an idea, make the engine only removable if the well is abandoned.

My mistake. They were inedible last time I checked.
Shame on you Destiny.
Meh its ok, you are all complaining for nothing imo.
I don´t know what the general opinion is but it seems to me that serial griefing has decreased a lot thanks to the current curse system. Blocking someone for a few hours isn´t strong enough to make serial griefers not to shit everywhere.
We got used to people messing around with everyone just for the lulz because annoying others is fun for them. Since they have almost infinite lives that means they just don´t care if they die or what happens to their family. I don´t log in to play with those people because chasing them all around is useless and boring, its not fair when only one party cares.
2 people cursed me for bouncing babies (I was RP as pedo), lately 2-3 for making a fence...
Isn´t roleplaying as pedo like asking to be cursed? Just curious.
I like the way the cursing system works now. I like it a lot because you don´t get free reign to be an asshole to everyone around you whenever you want.
I´ve said it before, I am a mean player. Which means im pretty loose with my language ingame (telling someone retard or dumbass if I think it is deserved). I even steal a few things here and there from other families if the town im currently in needs it. The one thing I try not to do is to shit on others for no reason. Guess what; I don´t get cursed often.
If we had to change the curse system I would rather decrease the time to 20 days and leave the rest untouched.
An engine is your town's most valuable, hard-won, and singular possession.
I agree. Could you please add the same double removal notice from elders that waystones have to move it?
I am just asking because the only way to protect the engine colectively as town is to keep it filled with water.
I will try some ingame ideas but I see it hard to implement.
I mean you spend soil and tool use, so it's closer to 0.5 per corn, now seriously bother to feed again or feed 3?
Haven't even thought about that we got to a point where producing the same amount of food like 13 bushes (plus the soil is already 2 water for that) in 8 minutes for 2 water can be considered wasteful now
I get your point. Its weird because 1 corn+ 2 water for 3 milk buckets is wasteful compared to 3 corn for 3 milk but at the same time is super efficient compared to using the same water on berry bushes. You don´t even need to get the numbers tbh. I am happy we see more mooo in the game, either with corn or water.
testo wrote:Wait what swapping water? I dont understand, Why you need water?
You can get 3 buckets of milk alone if you milk the cow and drop swap the bucket with a prefilled bowl of water, then swap the empty bowl in the box or table for the next bucket, plus you can remove milk to stop from devaluating into skimmed milk, also no reason to make too many creams. A moving cow makes it more annoying. More than one cow makes it more likely that people just overfeed calves and you get multiple cows for no reason.
You mean you water the cow with a bowl of water instead of getting x4 corn ears? Blashphemy. Shame on you Pein, shame on you. Isn´t it better to have 3 cows and one more corn pile?
Wait what swapping water? I dont understand, Why you need water?
lmao "boom- chicka- wow- wow" sounds like a tribal call for sex, I´m gonna try it next time I flirt with a girl.
Content is good, it's always nice to have new stuff but it should enable the game to be more interesting and not doing the same thing with different shapes and colors.
Except neither you or I get the monopoly to define what is interesting in the game. Several players have explicitly asked for more colors in this same forum and dyeing the clothing is a mayor moment for several players: they get to prepare all the dyes and mordant and go around town sharing everyone to dye their clothing.
I would say there is reasonable evidence to say that doing the same thing in different colors in the game is actually really interesting and important for many people. You can make a search for all the fashion and color threads, this is not something i´m making up. I could add more examples like the color themed roleplayed gangs and all the petitions to make pigments for paint more accesible.
In the topic of the shapes I would also say there is reasonable evidence to support that people expect variety and find super interesting to experiment using different shapes for buildings, for example. I won´t flood you with the topics about shrines, gardens, buildings, town design and patterns that people have shared around here, what I expect from you is to understand that variety in shapes and colors is something missing but important because they help to give an identity to the culture and civilization we are supposed to be recreating. That is missing important content, even if the gameplay for each village was to be the same.
A lot of games have huge amounts of content but are just plain boring.
I don´t understand what are you implying here, maybe you are trying to get the point about content not being the essence of this game?
I agree with that, the core of this game are the interactions it creates and how people get together to survive, or as Jason put it in a few words "I want a puzzle where each part of the puzzle has its own motives and goals..." or something like that. But note that most of the playerbase is not asking for a huge amount of content. Just varied content to explore. For example Tattoo shops where an amazing content addition. I believe i´ve never had people jump in or get more excited easily than when I say "hey lets make a tattoo shop", even if they don´t even know how to make black dye or make a tattoo. Just like colors and shapes: tattoos are useless for surviving. Completely and utterly useless, you don´t get food or any kind of value from them and you even waste thread and rope for some of them, not even counting the water wasted in making black dye. And yet several people love them, new people love to "be the tattoo guy" and explore how many tattoos there are. Seriously they go around town giving tattoos to kids and there is no shortage of tattooed people that leave their clothing just to see their character with a few damn dotted pixels. Another great "content" addition? Playable pine walls and pine floors, as simple as that. How many towns have you seen without pine floors since they came up? How many different shapes have you seen for the pine walls? even the infamous pods of zucc town where interesting.
All that points to one thing: this game can get a lot of simple content that is not necesrily boring to the players. I believe you value scarcity and challenge to survive as "interesting" and I have it on you to have said something among on the lines of "it is boring if every resource is infinite and there is no challenge to survive". Well, i would say you are just defining what you find boring as a person, but just as we don´t get to define what interesting is we don´t get to define what boring is.
The underlying problem here is the lack of perspective Jason has regardless of content addition. Several times he has made huge claims about the number of unique craftable objects and whatnot in the game but we all know the n unique transitions of a sheep are just sheep as content. Im not trying to look down on his work, I know he works hard in this game. But last week it was readily obvious that he sees almost anything new as content, when he highlighted how he had made dozen of new piles of objets. Do we really consider pile of clay new interesting content?
Everyone that says "NEED CONTENT" never says what content would be interesting and for which reasons it would actually be interesting.
I believe the forum is literally filled with ideas and proposals, from new clothing items to diseases and crafting. And many people have just given up making suggestions at this point since its pretty much a dead effort to elaborate on something that won´t be even look at as an idea. When I say need content im pretty open to play with whatever I get to try and experiment, from property fences to pine walls. Why would it be interesting? Idk, I like to craft and try new stuff. I even consider shoveled rabbits interesting content since you get to move them around.
Last but not least, I can tell you that 2ohl, molife, YAH and crucible managed to make some new content to try. It is not that much what we are asking here.
If the reason is "more stuff to do" then it's not interesting because it's just more of the same.
For example you can add an "iron stove" to the game so there is more stuff to do with iron but if there's still an infinite quantity of iron then it's only going to be another object you craft without thinking about it, there's no decisions to make, no interaction, nothing more than crafting.
Except again, you are just trying to force your view on what is or is not interesting. Some people find wine interesting content, they get to learn how to make glass and make a new crop. Is it a good food? nope. Is it fun? Well it seems it is, given that a lot of people like to cheer around or even roleplay as the drunken villager, crafting can be interesting while it goes related to a story and players interactions. Not everything is about a decition to make (do I take a glass of wine or not?) but about the character you play in the story. Afterall "you are part of something bigger" was supposedly the motto of this game, no?

Yes add 10'000 ways to grill a potato so players have the freedom to do what they want to do about it.
Add as much content as you want and see players do the exact same thing as before just with different shapes and colors.
Shapes and colors woohoo!!!
Except we don´t have as much content as we want so you can hardly tell what is going to happen. In the end the shapes and colors are the content we got and we used most of it. The "NEED CONTENT" momo is there for a reason Dodge, at some point you got to put your fingers out of your ears.
Teso I lived a pretty intense Life! For the first time after a year, I was oh fuck I am dead.
This was more intense than the Steam Apocalypse! And Still, I managed to survive and prosper.
Finite Berries and eggs feel Great! (Iron vein bug has to be fixed asap though)
Every life Now matters, Every transition of resources has to have a meaning. (Thank god rope tools are reversible in the most part)Thanks Jason! PLEASE FIX THE IRON VEIN BUG THOUGH!
Guide on how to survive and prosper Incoming...
Just to be completely clear im not being sarcastic by any means, I do think this is a bad update from the design pov but I also think it is worth to get the most of it by rolling it to see where it ends up. I would really hate a hotfix for the bug for the simple reason that im not so sure it can´t be circled around ingame. If we got a broken puzzle at least we can see how much do we "really care" about the resources. I would be completely fine and happy with a full week of the game untouched. (I already played 4 full lives)
In my not so humble opinion:
- Zoom is good and helps a lot, but I could live without it. I would have to go around wandering for any tool I want to find or rabbit to catch but meh, just slows your game a lot, doesn´t change the gameplay.
- Navigation coords and danger tiles are way more painful to lose, you basically get screwed because you can´t see three tiles north and because while running your character stays in the middle of the screen which is a huge design flaw in a game with hazards. Also the mosquito sprite is nonsense, getting killed by hazards you can´t see in a game is just frustrating and adds nothing to the gameplay. But you could still get a nice experience by avoiding bad biomass and moving super slow if you need to go throught them.
- But tbh no keyboard control using wasd is what kills vanilla for me. I just don´t enjoy a point and click game from the control side. I used to play a lot on vanilla until I realized how clunky and boring it is to move with the mouse compared to wasd.
So it all depends on what features do you value the most from the mod you use. For me no wasd support is a deal breaker.
Can we at least leave the game as it is with all the bugs for another day? It is frustrating but we may work an ingame solution, isn´t this what you want us to do? To try to coordinate and stuggle togheter in the game? Somehow this created an amazing social puzzle over the code failure, I think its worth a try.
Please no hotfix because we are too dumb to figure things out.
Yep, you got it right: nobody gets iron. Theres no middle point, now we dont care about iron because there isn´t any. XD
This is actually very good drama. From a shitty update. I am perplexed. Jason somehow, did it.
Color me entertained.
Fun fact - Food production requires a huge amount of water.
But you only need to eat food if you are alive.Save water. Stay off-line.
Destiny, I think you are too kind and smart of a person to play this game. Move on.
Anyone that does rush to kerosene in a day, should just quit. Let new players discover the tech tree among each other.
If you are capable of that, and still want to play, you should probably just be teaching, not doing it for other people and riding into an Eve village with a horse cart of bottles, filled with sulfur and palm oil... that's what really makes the game uninteresting; looting towns for the sake of someone on Discord that just spawned as an Eve.

Play the way you want to, where you want to.
Work on what you want, wherever it is in the world, as far as your knowledge allows you to get to it.
If you want to be a mom starting a new life at a fresh well, go out and find it.
If you don't want to be a baby born to a mom starting a new life, then /die if you want.
If you don't want to be a baby born to a mom starting a new life, but you don't want to /die. then wait till you are old enough to make the journey.Just play where you want,
play the way you want,
every time you get the chance.Let's all commit to this mentality, this, philosophy, of gameplay, and see where it leads.
If it pushes us ten thousand meters away from these homes we've been around for days, so be it.
Don't feel obliged, to farm, or make oil wells, or engines if you don't want to, do it because you want to.
Care for each because you want to, not because you feel you have to.Play, the way you want, the way the game allows, and let's see where we go.

Can we get a broom at least? Please dont change anything, this is not a good update but we can get it going. We just need a straight shaft+tule= broom to actually be able to play.
