Reminds me of the twins that kept spawning into my game and couldn't seem to coordinate if they wanted to stay. The first time I raised them they starved as children, second time they ran off, third time I asked if they would stay this time and one said yes, the other ran, fourth time I asked if they would stay and they both said yes. They eventually grew old enough to have their own kids, I just had to give birth to them four times before that happened. We had the resources to spare, so it wasn't a big deal. They ended up being good eggs.

I’ve never had any trouble with twins or triplets and have never had quads. Sammy and Samuel were my smol sweet bois who worked hard day in and day out. Lake and River were best friends who spent their lives improving the civilization. Alexander and Alexandra... well, Alexandra was an ass through and through, but Alexander was a nice little boy who helped my Eve camp expand. (For some reason, they were twin brother and sister, is this a glitch?) Misty and Spirit were productive and sweet. Castle and Tempest were adorable. Evee, Evea, and Evelyn were very helpful.

Never experienced a team of griefers.

Were they actually twins or just happened to be born at the same time? I know before the friends system was implemented, you could be born as twins if you and another player were born to the same mom at the same time. It was just something that happened occasionally, not something you coordinated with a friend.

#127 Re: Main Forum » Can we remove locks please? » 2018-08-21 17:37:50

The closest I've seen to locks being used well was the town with the hospital and clinic. When I was born into it it was clear the hospital had been griefed, dirty bandages on the floor, antivenom hidden behind trees, but the clinic was locked and the bandages secure. I got to work cleaning the bandages in the hospital and someone saw what I was doing and gave me a key to the clinic.

The thing is, most people didn't understand why the clinic was locked. I spent a lot of time by the clinic closing the door (there was another key in town) explaining to the people around that there was a hospital and the clinic needed to be locked to prevent griefing. It was backup, you see? Many people understood what it was for in that lifetime by the time I died, and I passed my key on to a kid and gave her a full explanation of what to use the clinic for. If the hospital is griefed, heal at the clinic.

But the intended use gets lost over generations. If there isn't someone standing by the clinic shouting it's purpose to the entire town their whole life, it doesn't do them much good. This is where communication in game is important and overlooked unfortunately. Also explore your towns people. If you only ever lived by the berry farms there, then you wouldn't have seen the hospital and thought the clinic was all you had.

#128 Re: Main Forum » If your baby doesn't speak, kill ''it'' » 2018-08-21 17:23:40

Yes. I always feed my baby when it's first born, then plop it on a perfect tile and say hello. I've explained to most of my babies in game that I don't feed the silent ones, so they have to speak. If the baby is silent and doesn't move, I don't feed it again. It's fine for a while on that tile before it will starve. I just repeat myself after a bit in case the player hasn't loaded in yet.

If the baby moves and is still silent, game over kid.

Had a great time with this when I placed a baby in front of a fire and told it to speak. It didn't. The other two adults in camp converged on it, shouting things like, "Speak or die!" Probably the most aggressively I've seen this test implemented. I'm usually pretty gentle with them. Anyway, the kid ran off a moment later. So either we caught a cursed baby, or terrified a newbie. Either way it was pretty funny.

Am I the only one who doesn't find the perfect desert in between green and swamp biome on my Eve runs ?

And when I do, berries are bit further and kids are not smart enough to go run to get food thus dying ?

No, just me ? OK then.

I rarely find a perfect spot and usually end up with the second one, with the wild food a bit too far away. I've had reasonable success making sure I take a break while setting things up to do a quick food run here and there, then sending my first kid in the direction of food to bring it back. Rushing omelettes makes this a pretty dang good strategy. Just talk to your kids when they're tiny, before they grow hair and run off. Let them know where the food is, or better yet, show them and grab a quick snack while you're out. If they have a basket with a berry in it and you throw them in the direction of the food, most of them will make it back at least once.

After your first kid starves, you should have omelettes and a farm getting started, so nothing to worry about.

Im always willing to raise as many kids as I can (Apart from when I'm an Eve) but there was this one time where there was a cursed baby among them. I was their brother at the time, and tried to convince my mother to starve the cursed one, but the other 3 were too willing to mask him. Since they all look identical we couldn't tell who was the cursed one, especially when they were all on the same tile. Eventually we had to just starve them all, the mother found it too stressful.

To be fair, the others probably would have suicided anyway if the cursed one died. Letting them all go is you best option.

But seriously guys, I know you all have horror stories about multiple births, but I'm asking for the good ones here. I refuse to believe you've all only ever had bad twins in your games, especially since I've been a productive twin/quad myself in multiple games.

#131 Re: Main Forum » Nameless daughter of cursed mother » 2018-08-20 05:40:19

This is a sad story, and I'm glad you had a good time with your mom, but keep in mind that cursed griefers can and will act innocent when they are born with black speech, then going on a killing rampage once they have everyone's trust. If you give a cursed child a chance, at the very least keep weapons secured, and keep an eye on them.

But it's really just better to stab them and not risk it. I'm with Betsy on this one.

Can we talk about twins/triplets/quads who went on to be productive members of society? All I ever see are horror stories, but if you manage to raise them, I personally haven't had too much trouble with multiples being griefers. I think the issue is them all standing on the same tile and not knowing which ones you've fed. One starves cause you missed picking it up, and they all peace out.

That's fine. I get it. But tell me your stories of multiples who made it through infancy and went on to help the town.

Here's mine: Tonight we had a set of quads who were born to a dying mother after a string of stabbings. I may or may not have been the last one to stab someone, so I was on murder cooldown feeling bad for these kids who had no mother to raise them. Luckily my cousin stepped up, and once I could interact with things again, I helped her feed them and brought her food so she could focus on picking each baby up one by one.

The quads, miraculously, survived that horrible ordeal. I gave one of them the only spare hat in town and called him the chosen one.

Now I'll admit that I don't have any amazing story about these boys, but they went on to be very productive. Helped the farms, brought seeds, didn't all quit when one died as a child. One of them helped me stop a griefer by nabbing her arrows and putting them in his backpack. I stabbed her. I don't normally stab that much in one life, but sometimes the stars just line up that way, you know?

Anyway, I gave chosen one my blue hat when I was old. He got killed by a boar as I was dying of old age. I saw him run past with red text: "Chosen one down!" he cried.

My last words? "Chosen one down, lol."

I'm glad we raised those boys. It was a fun life and they were fun to play with.

I just wanted to bring this up because so many people won't raise twins. I've quaded with streamers, and I like to think we know what we're doing when we spawn in. Just give us a chance if you have the resources to spare. I totally get it if you're an Eve though, really.

#133 Re: Main Forum » the saddest thing » 2018-08-07 02:38:27

Yeah, I've been having a lot of good runs without kids lately. It's almost like having no kids makes it easier to set things up or something.

But seriously, I need to have more kids in this game. It's been a real problem for me lately.

#134 Re: Main Forum » the saddest thing » 2018-08-07 02:30:35

Oh YOU were my mom!

I was streaming that run and according to chat the servers were being re-balanced. I was the last woman standing.

You never did come back with that snare, did you.

#135 Re: Main Forum » I want to stream this game. » 2018-08-06 18:36:58

I got it to work yesterday; I was just a bit behind on my Windows updates. But thanks for all the suggestions!

Game capture is what causes it to crash. I tried window capture as a backup with the game in windowed mode, but it only records my voice and some kind of frozen image of whatever was on screen before I started recording. I haven't tried monitor capture yet.

wondible wrote:

I stream the game fine with OBS.

The game's recording feature is more event level, not screen recording in the style of OBS, so I highly doubt it is interfering.

Windows has a built-in recording feature, which I did disable since I saw the OBS logs taking note of it. Look up disabling "Windows Games DVR", one example given.

Beyond that, you might want to try the OBS support forums or OBS Discord support channel. They will probably have better information on problematic hardware and software.

Looked into that. Is it windows 10 specific? Because I use windows 8 (not by choice, it just came with my computer.) The research I did myself was through the OBS forums and I already tried most of the stuff I was able to find based on what's already up there. But I can give it another go and ask around.

Like I said, I was able to get it to work with Rimworld, but OneLife keeps crashing. I'll try it with some other games as well to see if there are multiple games with this issue. Maybe see if my computer or drivers need any updates. I'm not always as on top of that as I should be.

I have literally zero streaming experience, but I enjoy this game so much that I looked up how to do it. I want to give it a go, just for fun. To spread the love, you know?

Anyway, long story short, I'm having some trouble with it and could use some help from someone who actually knows what they're doing. I installed OBS Studio and messed around with the settings until things looked right. I tested the recording on Rimworld and was able to get both video and audio working and that was great. I decided to try recording OneLife next, but the game keeps crashing.

I did some more research, and can admit I'm not the most tech savvy, so any input from someone more knowledgeable would be fantastic. The closest I can get is it looks like OBS will cause a game to crash if there is already something recording the game. I understand that OneLife has some kind of recording function that you can later play back so my best guess is that this is what is causing the game to crash.

Any other ideas? Is it possible to turn off the built in recording so I can give that a try? I know it's possible to stream the game because I've watched people do it. But I suppose I don't know what software they're using.

Usually at this point I have a kid who sees me making eggs and they'll focus on gathering eggs. Good, more food while the berries are growing.

This is a good point.  I think I should probably be getting eggs cooking much sooner than I usually do, and more of them.  I'm usually hyper-focused on getting the farm going ASAP, but if you run out of food before anything grows, it doesn't do you much good.  And, yeah,  now that you mention it, gathering eggs is the one job I keep seeing kids doing with no prompting whatsoever, even when they don't seem inclined/able to do much else.

I think a lot of people underestimate how useful eggs can be in an Eve run. I just like to try and make things as efficiently as possible, which is why I use the coals from my pottery work for cooking. Why waste them, right?

And yeah, it's super easy for kids to gather eggs, since you're usually setting up close to ponds anyway.

My brother and I had a murder suicide. There were like four men left and no women and I insisted on making tacos before I died. We buried our uncles (who died of old age, what a fun bunch they were), ate the tacos that I'd spent my whole life making, and then he gave me the knife to stab him. I didn't know at the time that you had to right click, so I walked back and forth a few times before I figured it out. As the last surviving male holding a murder weapon, I starved.

It was a good life.

Best I've managed personally is 13 gens. I too would love to know how some of the more consistent Eve's manage it.

The technique that usually gets me at least a few generations goes like this:

Fire-making tools, kiln, fire three or four bowls and plates each, along with the nozzle for future smithing use so they don't have to waste kindling later. Cover the kiln for charcoal if it doesn't go out before I'm done. Fry up some eggs on the coals of the fire I used to make the pottery.

Usually at this point I have a kid who sees me making eggs and they'll focus on gathering eggs. Good, more food while the berries are growing.

Set up three by three berry farm, and maybe another if I have time. If any of my kids seem like they're taking over and handling the farm, get the rabbits started. I have yet to birth a child who actually comes back when I send them off to hunt rabbits, so at this point I usually just take over this job. I almost always have a kid who wants to take over smithing and gets all up in my way if I try to do it as an Eve anyway, so I leave that to them.

Get the pouch for the bellows put together, and focus on making backpacks for the rest of my life. You'd be surprised at how much backpacks and baskets improve the chances of your future gens, and few people ever make them.

I might bring back seeds for new crops too while I'm out hunting. Corn is great for the kiddos.

Would be interesting if it is, but just because there's only one bite on your body doesn't mean you don't have both working against you. I had a baby get stabbed a while ago and when I picked her up all her wounds healed. She still died.

I'd like to see someone test this out though! You know, for science.

Yeah I'd be up for that! How long have you been gone? I assume you're looking for stuff like how all the farming works now and what natural resources do or don't regenerate these days?

I'm not a discord expert, but I put together a server if case anyone's interested. I might need some guidance on how to manage it though since I've really only ever used discord for D&D.

Also if someone could point me in the direction of the official discord, that would be great smile

Thank you JK for stepping up and offering to twin mentor people as well. I'm seeing you in other forum threads making the offer and that's great!

It's just bad luck with new players. I literally spawned on top of a large camp tonight with an established berry farm, forge, tools, etc. and my kids/grandkids were still starving.
