your diagonal road is pathethic, even if it completes, in compatison to my 5500 tile ling mostly gap-less road, build almost entirely ony my own, within 2 weeks if mostly no rift.

i never play within a rifft.
35 years ago with ultima online everyone learned the lesson, that pvp in an MMO only works if you partition areas that have NULL pvp, and usually this means null-pvp-server shards.
Everything else since then is just whiney dumb ignorance.

I playedd a lot in the 2 "rift be gone" acation weeks, build almost all of a 5700 tile long road network.
I played exactly null minutes since the rift came back. no need to bother with that nonsense.

remember the most recent 2 weeks for they have been the last 2 weeks this game was any good.
great actually, for it had 6 bells, totally unblocked, and connected by a web of 6000 road tiles.
I finished 4 of these bells and placed 5500 of those road tiles.
now its just bears, no more roads ever. every city will be samey, and the game is dull torture.
but it is the uglyness on the inside of everry fenche, that counts.
roads are sure not a waste of time. berry farming however ALWAYS is a waste of time.
i build this 5600 tile road network, like 90% of it at least.
roads have long persistence, very slow decay.
roads and bells slow down decay of other ababndoned places, by having regular visitors there.
good roads connect to wild berry bushes, this greatly diminishes starvation.
good roads have tools along them, to make shoes/clothing.
good roads provide with many things, all the items of people who died near roads.
good cities are just many small dots along roads. a city behind a road-connected city at a dead end of a road-network is VERY safe from raids. the city closer to the road nezworks center then acts as a fort.
roads speed up movement, and that saves food, especially without shoes. slow build time is already wooth it just for myself, as i ride along my own road for whatever reason.
and i know coundless other people ride along the road and like them in general.
I finished 4/6 bell towers. not the second, not the fifth. and there ate like 4 bell towers just waiting for a bell.
I never mined any gold, the bells gold is from begged or found crowns (noone got murdered by me for the crowwn they had).
you kinda need roads to quickly copy fire to a place along the road that needs fiore only occasionally.

sure. roads kill and nourish people but cities on roads and near them can easily survive for a whole day.
2 foreign fams nearby dont last forever, and roads get them cloaser.
6th bell near town south of "griefer hq" large dot southwest
new road map now much closer to a 1:1 mapping, one pixel to one tile.
I know people hate this answer, but the solution to raids is to build fences.
Building defensive fences is a hassle and almost certainly useless in this post-rift meta, but that's how it is.
That being said, I hate the war mechanic as well.
if i want to see a city die or inhibited, and it has fenches around it, i build a fenche around theirfenche, BUT with one constantly open gate, so they believe its not a foreign cage, till its closed.
when the outer fenche is done, close the fenche and block it off with moore fenche. you trapped a foreign city now.
then build a third fenche around that fenche. this is necessary to demotivate them.
fenches still make sense now after the rift, but its situational, and generally a waste of too much time.
the problem here is that the eve spiral is small and eves also spawn closer together. this can often add a semi-rift gameplay to some locations, where a lot more people with horses and war swords are in one area still.
while your city is between many spawnbing eves and many bells, it makes sense to build fences. otherwise certainly not.

There are many clear signs that they are caused by, and a breeding grounbd of, very dumb and organized trolling and stalking and attention whoring, at the expense of everyone, they just waste everyones time and resources with a pro-chaos and pro-grief agenda.
They will eat all your food, make +4 knifes in a location that laready has 14 knifes, anbd then claim it was +5 knifes. and then just murder everyone and be whiny and proud at the same time.
