We were just unlucky at that point because I could totally feel the lowered food. We had nothing lmao, not even an axe when I spawned there. what you see is what we had in terms of food. I run east to get some wild food and clay for some omellettes, saw my sister (the one on the top), she had taken the bp and she just said bye and afked!! man I was so pissed lawl. By the time mom died I already had 3 girls and some stable food in omelettes and carrots and some steel, I miscalculated a bite when the girls took the last omelettes and the corn was drying for the stew XD. The biggest problem was the lack of wild food and trees in close range.

Ok, Jason.
It's interesting how after such a long time of running his game into the ground, some people literally don't care enough anymore to pretend it was sold as "a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building".
I know your argument wasn't meant as a response to whether the game is pure survival or what it was advertised as anymore, but I mean you have to realize you're literally arguing for the fact that the game isn't even improving at this point, regardless of the type of game its become...
Yeah, I know my post may rub you in the wrong way but lets be real, someone has all the years of game developing while others... we are just pawns.
I have no hope of change, i am just playing the game and making the most fun of what is left. I actually did have fun while making my griefing protest, https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=9511 and I have a few more in design stages: getting that sweet "jackass" status was my biggest achievement ever in the game.
When I expressed myself here I did it with a mix of sadness/anger/dispair/fear/hopeless/powerless feeling, and not trying to defend the status quo. I believe we are hardly in a different page.
testo wrote:Whatever we think about the game is irrelevant.
This is not our game, this is not your game and obviously, this is not my game. But it is someones game.
I mean its a game being sold to us as a product, and if people think the products not worth it people will stop buying it with money, money being the main reason this game can continue development it would be fair to assume that player opinion of said game does matter and thus have a say on certain matters. After all we are the ones who opened our pocketbooks expecting a good product, is it not right that we should expect such and intern ask for improvements?
Jason already stated that he sold enough copies of the game. He is working on it just for fun in my opinion. The moment he stops getting enough revenue he can shut it down and move on to another project. He doesn´t even need to shut it down. You bought a product and you got your product: access to his servers. The game and code are completely free.
Whatever we think about the game is irrelevant.
This is not our game, this is not your game and obviously, this is not my game. But it is someones game.
testo wrote:Help! I can´t play the game XD the server wants me to be "the one", but I don´t want to. My leaderboard rating is not even that good im like 10 or something.
Hardly any children - are you sure you don't have custom server set, or ending up in donkeytown?
Selection is something like best of the last 10 births, so top 10% is about right.
Yes. I have a few more pictures that prove I was in BS2. As a chocolate Eve I spawned north west of the vanilla family, close to a desert. Since they had a secondary well there I could move without having any children. I took out about 5/6 horses from a desert into prairie biomass while Dana (a coffee lady) pestered me around in her foraign language asking me about my village. I also went to the vanilla family and told them about my sad story. They invited me to colaborate there to which I politely declined. I told them about the location of the horses before running to the closest threat.
You missed the point where I call them all restrictions instead of mechanics.
Simple mechanics can add complexity to the game. Restrictions just make it harded with no tradeoff.
I disagree with the opener, restrictions aren´t always complex.
Toolslots, race restrictions, posse... those are very simple restrictions.
If you think toolslots and posse meant more complex interactions inside a village... I´ve seen people asking for help because they used all their toolslots. And I´ve seen 4+ people chasing an obvious griefer while he keeps breaking stuff.
If you think race restrictions meant more complex types of societies and diverse cultural cities... I´ve seen tarrs huts in the snow and a few tattoo shops.
You have one problem and you are complaining? Yeee.
I have come to give my opinion. Please listen people. My opinion is very important and if you disagree with it you are TOXIC. VERY UNFRIENDLY AND UNWELCOMING.
fucking lmao
When did this turn into a public opinion thread? I don't remember asking who likes me and who doesn't. I don't care what you think, and you don't care what I think. Why even bother?
This thread was about a guy lying about why he was killed and cursed and I corrected him with proof. I dislike people lying in their stories to make themselves look better, especially when they're a hypocrite and got an innocent person 4 curses BUT THEN complains about being mass cursed themselves. Fucking hypocrite.
Fuck that, fuck this thread. I'm actually done this time. If you want to shit talk me come in the discord and I'll be glad to send you clown emojis. Not about to take shit from a guy who spammed waystones all over server 7 like a monkey when they couldn't be removed.
Ehm, you are really wrong, I never put single waystone in server 7, I know the person who did though. But you are unlikely to understand that, because you are not being very logic with your posts right now. I don´t have a single reason to shit talk you. I won´t.
On the other side you are still not making any sense. You yell and claim something about proof and someone being a liar. That is what I call toxicity. Seriously, if you can´t post in a calm and logic way you may need to reevaluate your posting habits. Whenever you can post something coherent without spreading shit everywhere I will be here. Cya.
Are you suiciding as Eve?
If you have a high gene score, you might be "the one" that gets chosen to be Eve by the server.
If you die young, the server still needs an Eve for that race, so it's waiting for another high gene score user to spawn.... and if your score is higher than most people, it might pick you again.
Yes and I will keep suiciding. I don´t want to be "this one" under these conditions.

Testo wrote:I don´t want to play as Eve on BS2, I lose too many points for the gene score and thus toolslots
So is the problem playing as an Eve *per se*, or that you're concerned that you'll have so many children who will die young, that your score will get negatively affected?
If there were some limitation on the number of children you could have as an Eve would you act the same way?
Maybe the underlying problem is the problem of too many players starting as babies.
Both.
Playing as Eve in the current system is not really interesting for me. Biomass lock and iron scarcity makes it boring to play finding a free spot in a map full of used spots. If you are Black you don´t really want big jungles or tundra around and you need to run around looking for a big desert with many cactus wich is not really fun. With whites it is even worst, you are dead in the water to find a big green biomass towards the other races just to not get isolated. So Eve in general = boring.
Also having several babies that will eventually die young because of lack of food clothing and understanding of how to survive the early stages affects my gene score and toolslots. Not only I get hurt by my kids, but their kids as well. Which means I get to make a ton of work just to keep a line alive and I get to lose toolslots in the process.
Well maybe If I had 3/5 kids It could be fun to play as Eve even if you get a gene hit. Still the biomass lock makes it boring.
W h a t
You clearly haven't read this thread and then come in here and insult me when you have no idea what is going on. YOU were the one that injected yourself into this and insulted me. That's kinda toxic bro.
Did you feel insulted because I found your attitude toxic and I explain why? I am not trying to insult you in any way, but this is not a private conversation: you are posting in the general forum an answer to a public thread from another user. I do actually have the right to "inject" myself here.
Now, if you don´t understand why I found your attitude toxic, let me remaind you that you are calling someone else a liar and protecting another person (the real person involved since it wasn´t you the one that got into the argument), while at the same time spreading shit around with a fan.
I am not being toxic by expressing my concerns and dislike your attitude, and I would be very selfish to believe everyone is forced to like me or that anyone that doesn´t like my attitude is toxic.
- Clear statements of problems that you have encountered. I don't need to hear dozens of solutions. I need to understand the problem. - Jason.
I keep spawning as eve (Normally White or Black). I don´t want to play as Eve on BS2, I lose too many points for the gene score and thus toolslots (I don´t really care about the leaderboard). I don´t like having babies either anyways. I tried suiciding asap but as the picture shows I keep respawning as Eve unless I have relatives and lose the gene score. (This has happened several times before).

Ah yes. I'm the upset one. Making a forum thread about it and lying about everything obviously doesn't mean THEY'RE the mad ones.
I just don't like liars bro
They? I though this was a post about one person getting mass cursed and you came out of nowhere calling the opener a liar and whatnot even though you were not even the person that stole from him. This may shock you but your attitude is way more toxic to me than toxic phishing accounts or Spoonwood necroing the whole forum.
Yeah, it would be great to see a general overhaul of the wild animals to make them smarter and more interesting. Wolves and boars run over you by accident. They do not even hunt like bears. The only reason why any of the animals are a serious threat is because a lot of the player-base uses the vanilla client, so they can't zoom out to see an off-screen boar.
The only reason why animals are a threat in vanilla is because while running you are forced to keep your character in the center of the screen, thus making it virtually impossible to dodge an animal while moving north and south.
testo wrote:... even if that is done with the authors resources and time and while he adds more to the "village" than others (I am talking about making airplanes or cars on a property fenced area).
yes cars and airplanes, every village needs them, they are super useful and help everyone and its not like the oil that you need to get that iron is limited
Sorry sir, I hope you understand the deep respect I have for your job with hetuw.
That being said, the question here is exactly what you propose. Is it really against the town if I make a car/plane in a fence with iron I got myself? Is it right if I work more than others and also make the car? Is it never right even though I am using resources that will never be used before the town dies anyways? Is it wrong if I go to a dead city and pick an engine left behind, make a car and fence it at my homeplace?
testo wrote:I will, however, remind you that the whole economy system that allows us to play this game and to comunicate throught the internet is not really based on "what is justified" or not, but rather on individualism, property and selfishness.
people dont play games to experience the flaws of the real world
I mean your second sentence actually shows how ridiculous and stupid the herd mentality is: we do play to have fun, not to make a perfect efficient world where we make a town survive with our limited resources. Is it wrong to have fun with your car if you managed to get it yourself? I read Slinky somewhere here with the line "...nothing is yours...". Is anyone here proposing the perfect way to play the game and telling exactly what everyone needs and how to use it or not? I think there is no doubt the main goal to play an electronic game is to have fun. And yet I would say it is unlikely that we can get a full agreement on what fun is and what makes something fun for everyone here. But for some reason some people feel entitled to decide what others shouldn´t do ingame even though it doesn´t affect them in any possible way.
Jojigirl wrote:Property fences are a part of the game, if someone chooses to use them, then they should not get cursed for it.. They paid for the game just the same and should be able to make fences if they choose to do so.
Yeah, that's not a valid argument. Paying for server access does not mean you are free to follow all of your impulses.
You do not have a "right" to build property fences in this game any more than you have a "right" to kill all the sheep if you feel like stabbing something. Just because Jason added a scrap box that reduces an engine to a bunch of raw iron, that doesn't mean it is okay to scrap the village's only engine or that you don't deserve to be cursed for doing so. Just because you CAN do something does not mean you SHOULD do something. Or that doing that action is going to be socially acceptable to other villagers.Jason put property fences into the game, but he also put the curse system in the game (and killing) so we could self-police. If enough people consider property-ownership counterproductive behavior, it is completely valid within the rules of the game to deter other players from constructing fences by whatever means are available. Keep in mind that the only way to "revoke" gate ownership from a player who is abusing property fencing is to kill them. But posse-killing is pretty hard to coordinate and generally not worth the effort unless the village is under direct threat. Using curses to deter property ownership is a less-direct but much easier approach, since it teaches people to not build fences in the middle of town in future lives and it moves the fence-builders to other villages where they won't be a problem for you if they should persist in making private property.
In my experience, property fence builders are either new players who do not understand why nobody builds property fences or griefers who want to use property fences for nefarious purposes. In rare cases, they are more experienced players who plan on using property fences for selfish or anti-social reasons, like storing material for a personal project or keeping other people away from them while they work. In most cases, the property fences are not directly benefiting the village and in many cases, they can be directly harmful, by locking away valuable resources and blocking free movement. Even if the person who stored stuff inside the fence is planning on using it eventually, there is no guarantee that he will finish the task in a timely manner and, in the meantime, the gate is preventing other people from accessing the tools or resources he has sequestered for personal use. In a small village with limited resources, time is a precious commodity and selfish behavior can be deadly. Also, removing a property fence from a badly chosen location is really annoying, harder than slowing berry-patch creep. And even when the original builder had good intentions, that does not mean that future owners will use the gate responsibly. If you wait to see what a person is planning to do with his property fence or how responsible he is, then it is too late to do much about it and the village will be stuck with a big ugly property-fenced area for hours.
I would equate property fence construction with dog breeding or airplane building. These activities are almost NEVER done anymore, because the majority of experienced players understand that they are not beneficial and serve no valid purpose for the village. Just like with property fencing, when you see someone working on dog-breeding, you can expect that they are either a new player who just realized that dogs were a part of OHOL and they are super excited to have a beagle puppy ... or they are a more experienced player who knows that dogs are broken and they are planning on breeding some pitbulls to cause trouble for the rest of the town. Likewise, there are occasionally people who build cars or planes. But in the current game state, doing so is almost never justified. It's just a really convoluted way to lose an engine.
....
Now, just to clarify, I do not curse people for making property fences or owning property gates. I agree that curses should be reserved for actual griefing, rather than directed at anyone who does something you don't like. If I cursed everyone who played sub-optimally, I would never have any curses available for when I encountered a real threat. Plus, I don't like to curse or kill people unless it is absolutely necessary. It is a powerful action and should be reserved for people who really deserve to be punished for bad behavior.
My preferred approach when I see something I don't like is to either ignore it or try to talk it out. That can be challenging in OHOL due to text limits, but it isn't impossible and it is a better approach if you are hoping to change someone's mind.
So basically the herd has the power to stop anyone doing something they might consider fun, even if that is done with the authors resources and time and while he adds more to the "village" than others (I am talking about making airplanes or cars on a property fenced area).
Saying that something in game is or not justified is a subjective sentence at best if not completely wrong. I hate that your brain got melded in the herd mentallity: this is good for the town, this is bad for the town? You are trying to argue that? Seriously? I am not gonna lecture you, an old time forum poster about how the herd actually wastes resources left and right. I am not going to lecture you either on how every dead town leaves a lot of resources never used and not justified to use in a personal project and lastly, I am not going to lecture you on the several ways every resource could be better used if people wasn´t lazy and followed some hirarchy structure.
I will, however, remind you that the whole economy system that allows us to play this game and to comunicate throught the internet is not really based on "what is justified" or not, but rather on individualism, property and selfishness.

Not really the kind of game I want to play.
Well I mean, now they’re all having a grand time causing apocalypses 20k away, so it’s still pretty useless. It’s just temporary personal relief, and dooming the server. That’s another problem entirely though.
But we all should agree that going to DT is not even a punishment to begin with. You get to play the same game just separated from the rest. A real punishment should be to be forced to play in a rift area with no iron. I´d like to see how bold the griefers would be on those conditions.
testo wrote:I understand your point schmloo. I even agree that many times the curse system is not being used to curse griefers or people acting against a town. However this curse system as bad as you may see it at least does stop people from going full retartds over everyone else.
It stops those people, you’re right, and that’s the relieving positive side of it. Unfortunately, the negative side which has a greater impact is that it sacrifices people who don’t deserve to be in dt; those are possibly people who have a positive impact on the town, and were sent there over a misunderstanding with a (or several) touchy person(s). Not the best trade off, in all honesty. Since I haven’t played for a bit until more recently, I have no clue what the finer details of the system are, but something, somewhere is very wrong, and too strict.
I understand when you say that but I just got bored of trolls and griefers in general, let alone people just taking your stuff and being rude in general. Hint: they don´t work.
xaxaxa he didnt cursed me Mr.Gold and I tried to talk him a little. Talking is not always enough Destiny some of them are deliberately eating the same food over and over. But I agree with you, I always ask my kids if they know about yum and I use the 3 minute raisin time to explain them about Yumming and teach them how to make milk and yum it through Pouch.
To continue with my Cultural war experiences.
I Spawn again in this town after some hours, they had kept the Corn Farm![]()
....the berries had spread sideways now though counting 32 in numbers -_-
I emptied the nine on the left, (always secured the bowls with carrots) and tried to fence them off to die peacefully but the fence had 1 little hole and after some minutes guess what. A Berry Spreader went all the way around to soil them and water them -_- YOU HAVE ALREADY 20+ berries god damn!Sometimes, Testo, you can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs.
So I decided that These people need the shovel!
Next life I am starting a cult, The only berries in the town will be fenced! :}
The Culture war has started!
Lol don´t mind me, you can break the full basket and then some if your eggs are berry bushes and or carrot rows.
I am willing to supply oil permanently to any town that needs it, as long as they feed less than 10 berry bushes and 10 carrot rows. Which in OHOL history accounts to 0.
I understand your point schmloo. I even agree that many times the curse system is not being used to curse griefers or people acting against a town. However this curse system as bad as you may see it at least does stop people from going full retartds over everyone else.
