a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

This will fail just like the first apocalypse.
Everything can end, but let it exist first.
We want dozens of towns connected with hundreds of cars. Then you can blow it up.
I dont know how comparing the severity of a action in a video game in contrast to real life has any merrit as a supporting thesis for the justification of greifing in general.
This game is more of a social experiment than a game so the comparisons to real life are entirely appropriate.
Edit: Killing a mom that wanted you dead is not greifing, killing all women and stealing tools is. Very different!
Jason once spoke strongly against signs. A month later we had signs. A month after that we had paper.
Jason was strongly against babies in carts, lots of posts. Now it's on the will do reddit list.
I say keep those suggestions coming no matter what!
So people feel that they, as a baby, have a right to the life when spawned.
No rights are guaranteed. Just like your right to live after failing me as a mother. Also remember I said "probably kill you". In your case, maybe not. Remember, OP blatantly ignored her surrounded by so much food he could waste it to teach. He failed to teach rule #1: All life is precious! She deserved her revenge, I applaud her.
Lets face it, if you stood there and watched your kid starve to death in real life because you were busy, you would be frying on the electric chair. Few crimes deserve it but that one does.
Bruh theres a difference between actively stabbing people, and passivly ignoring a child.
I agree, letting a baby starve is WAY worse. Watching a kid die that wants to live is just wrong yet we have all come to accept it. This game is about taking care of others, not being selfish!
Villages don't fail because of too many people, they fail because of too many newbs/lazy people. More people is always good if you're good enough to give them jobs.
I just think standing there while a kid begs for food is the worse thing you can do in this game (besides people pens). Especially in the case of OP letting a girl die to teach a newb boy? He deserved to die by knife.
If you abandon me as a kid I will probably murder you if I grow up. You tried to kill me, i'll kill you. I don't care if you're the Pope.
You are one very special snowwflake if you do this and you should feels disgusted. People won't always raise you, it's not their obligation. Grow the fuck up.
Wait, you're choosing to murder innocent babies AFTER THEY ARE BORN because it's inconvenient and I am the one with issues?
Don't you understand the purpose of this game is an experiment on how you treat others? You just got a mark in the naughty column ![]()
Why are people so worried about murder. People will die, bloodlines ended but safety in numbers!
Murder spree start? Ring the bell immediately for help in about 30 minutes. Someone will come and pickup your blood drenched backpack and start over. You will probably be their kid next life.
Once cities are big enough it will be impossible to murder everyone.
Make bells. Ring bells. Follow bells. It's the only way.
In the next life, you have a heavenly glow.
I think some cross life benefits are in order too but Jason is pretty against them (but we can keep asking!). That's why single life benefits to being productive might be a good trade for now.
How many bells can we fit in one town?
Challenge accepted.
Crazy idea...
What if characters started developing visual traits based on what they do in their lifetime? This will allow us to judge each other based on looks, just like in real life!
- Just collect a bunch of clay? You will look dirty.
- Smith a bunch of tools? Here are some muscles.
- Kill a bear? Face paint.
- Build a car? Monocle for you!
- Tending to lots of kids? Bigger boobs.
- Haven't done anything for a while? Loose all visuals.
- Kill someone? /devious face for you. Two? Permanent /devious face.
- On a huge yum bonus? You grow bigger.
Gederian,
I started my own thread on this, but we just revived the awesome jungle berry patch with the mosquito wall/ bell army on the left side.
Almost as soon as we got there, my Eve mom and I RANG THE BELLS. There was drama, but it was absolutely the right choice. Thank you for your encouragement and support.
Love the story, sounds like a place I have been and bells I have contributed to! Only note: I'ts best to space out ringing the bells so more people will hear them!
Spread the story of the bells to everyone you meet, show them how to make them!

This is very true, not just in experience but as a matter of personality. Almost every chain murderer in real life or in a game will have a reason to give you when they are trying to evade consequences. But the truth is that usually they just enjoy it, even if at some point later they express or even feel regret. Criminals like what they do, and they suppress their conscience deliberately (if they have one) when they see an opportunity to inflate their sense of power and control. And they throw up every kind of smokescreen imaginable when trying to excuse their actions.
Exactly. So keep making and ringing those bells!!! Ding Dong!
If you abandon me as a kid I will probably murder you if I grow up. You tried to kill me, i'll kill you. I don't care if you're the Pope.
If there wasn't an unknown in town they would have killed you for stealing a berry. Killers don't need a reason to kill.
Make bells. Ring bells. Follow bells. It's the only way.
dangergirl713 wrote:Whenever I ring the bell, usually someone comes along into the camp and eventually murders me or someone else in the camp. That's the true meta of the bell.
Sadly enough I once travelled to a bell town and really made it, while still having 2 children there, one of them also got it in his mad head, he needs to murder everyone not related ... *sigh*
That's why you need to keep ringing and get a third line there ASAP to balance it out.
Stop fighting the bell meta and just go all out bell and see what happens. It will be fun, I promise.
Don't fear the bell for it does not bring death. Death is simply inevitable.
I was born into a huge town as the last girl. The first thing I did when I was old enough was ring this awesome bell I nearby. I then went onto making a LOT of charcoal because, why not... It will be needed!
When I was about 35 years old some stranger wandered into my town speaking of a great journey towards the sound of... My bell!
I ended up having four boys that doomed my line, but that traveler, she had several girls! I taught my son and the eve how to build bells and they will pass it on. My son and the eve even buried me next to my bell.
So, my point is this. If you don't contribute to a bell in every life you are the reason your work will not live on.
SO BUILD A BELL EVERY LIFE AND RING THEM OFTEN!

Edit: Important note about bells:
You can ring them every 20 minutes. If you try to ring a bell that has just been rung it turns into a stuck bell and you have to wait another 20 minutes. So, no matter what you can ring every bell twice per life!
Fist off, great job getting this data and making sense of it. Here are the conclusions I have drawn:
- If you randomly end up on high level servers you will never see your tree grow past a few hours. Bad experience for new players.
- Birthing people to servers based at all on load is bad. All servers should be used at all times.
- Eves should be evenly distributed across all servers so each server has roughly the same number of bloodlines at a time.
- Factors to consider when spawning (by weight) to ensure fair distribution: Last Birth, Generation Number, Highest Tech
Civilizations never fail due to not procreating enough but in this game its what gets 99% of advanced civilizations.
Have you seen the new update????
If a town is not close to lots of good temp tiles I will suicide because it has 0% chance of long term survival.
It used to be that without at least 10 ponds it was futile but now even three is OK if there are more in road building distance. Buckets were the real game changer.
Also, don't expect to beat the 288 record. That was done on an empty server by people coordinating on Discord and letting anyone not in their group die to avoid greifers.
i had a twin sister today, despite being a boy! she was actually about a year and a half younger than me, but she was my twin all the same according to the game. ive had it happen before too, and got screenshots the first time, if youd like to see!
Any idea if it's intentional or a bug? Even if it's that's how it works I think it would still be great to choose to be born as a twin with a random player. Maybe it even only takes one to ask for it and you are then born with the next person.
How about as female we're at least guaranteed to have 1 of our kids to have a clue?
I like where you're going with this. Instead of women scores to decide who gets a girl each lineage can have a score based on the skill of spawned players in the past hour, this way each line is likely to get some good players instead of all new players. This will help lines live longer and help new players by ensuring there are skilled players in town to teach them.
Most people forget that you can lead a bear away from town and it usually won't return if you lead it far enough away and get far enough away from the bear before you turn and head back to town.
For that reason, baby bearacide does not really bother me.
But if you're talking reality... A baby can't even walk at 1yr old so venturing into a bear cave is even less realistic (but 100% realism is not the goal of the game).
The issue is almost every lines is ended because of no girls left.
I think this is the main point to focus on however the proposed solution may not be ideal because as Azrael points out, life should not be fair and this is a "make it fair" change.
The reality is few civilizations fail because there aren't enough girls to carry on a line (usually overpopulation kills) however in this game it seems the vast majority of lines fail because there aren't enough girls.
Maybe we can put our heads together and find a way to make life unfair but the end not so predictable.
I can understand that, but that's because we talk over text, in reality, I'm just as passionate as anyone is who makes the initial post.
I completely understand that and I used to be the same way, people confused my passion for arrogance. I often re-read all my communications and remove things that don't forward the conversation. In fact, in my original post to you I had another sentence along the line of "I bet your a gem in person" but I removed it because it did nothing but antagonize. I bet if I left that there instead of reflecting on what I wanted to say you would have understandably ignored it and sniped back.
And in your full response (which I read the whole thing) I actually agree with many of the points you made. Had I sniped you and you sniped back nothing would have been accomplished. But here we are now, understanding each other and agreeing.
