20 milkweed for a single panel is crazy. That's a broken steel hoe on average every 5 wall tiles if you use double dirt. Contrast with zero steel cost of adobe, or 50 stone walls per chisel.

If you've seen that primitive technology guy on youtube, or any of the Indonesian clone channels which tend to do a lot more with wood, they use vines rather than rope.

That said, adobe and stone should probably be harder to make than they are. Adobe could require a similar wood frame to pine needles, or even take pine panels as the substrate and upgrade it to adobe.

Dry masonry is insanely difficult, stone walls should probably require a bucket of mortar - we have the lime already.

Maybe it could be done by either rope or vine in the game. Would be a good thing if swamps (or a new biome) had vines, so with a big enough grassland and swamp you could make somewhat easy housing.

I like the overall point of this post a lot. A lot of tech in the game could use some rebalancing or fixing.

Yes, it is.  Though Jason, with or without rain should expand the biomes, so that should not be too much of a problem.

Although it's been said many times before, biomes should be made around 10x bigger, and made so you can survive in all of them individually.

I slightly disagree on this. Biomes should be rebalanced, yes, bigger (maybe not 10x) and further from each other yes, but making all capable of survival and, specially sustainability make no sense. Biomes should be different enough that you need to combine them for your survival but also provide just enough that you get by on some of them for a short while at least. This all adds up to more options and choices, specially early game. Do you pick the biome with water plus the biome with soil or the ones with iron and rabbits? Currently it's not even a question, you always need the first two early to late game and the other two when either iron/sheep or rabbits are needed.

I think bigger biomes should be a thing, maybe 2 to 3 times bigger but also adding another single early/mid game biome which offered food and alternatives for either tools/water/soil could spice up the game big time.

I lke the idea of weather a lot, but maybe slightly tweaked and slightly later on the game's development.

Now with the new update it's balanced for everyone

Just be smarter, i mean seriously pit bulls have been added to the game and you still use knife and bow lol

I guess i can try that but i just feel like cursing is so whiney why can't they just defend themseleves by killing me ehh

do you have any idea how whiny your own posts sound most of the time? I get it, you wanna grief, you have the right to. I agree it's not even that big of a deal because most times i end the griefers i cross, few days ago even helped save a last girl, keeping the line alive for 10+ gens.

But seriously girl, you calling everyone a crybaby makes you look a hell of a lot like one. specially if you're boohooing because you've been exiled for being a jerk. And i think you do realize that since people always ask you if you're kid/teen.

berry running is useful as a toddler on an eve camp after you have a few bowls and that's pretty much it. its a nce and fast way to help your eve smith without worrying for both food and wood. just leave most bowls home.

I agree. but this is in the top 5 list of things already added that need completing right?

i mean, after dogs, worms and pigs being useless this screams "fix me jason" eh?

#909 Re: Main Forum » Why Whites are Better than Blacks (ONLY in Ohol) » 2018-09-21 02:53:13

ooooor jason could add the rest of the characters in those ethnicities.

genetics can be really hard unless you have one or few systems that do anything, I think adding any "artificial" fix for these inheritance rates would only make it more problematic. Ethnicities could be inherited by basic quantitative genetics as they'd work better in haploid inheritance and in phenotypes distributed in a spectrum (like skin colour is). Later, if this system seemed insuficient more could be added to it almost effortlessly.

I hope tree farming is really water demanding. Just to ballance it out you know? Also would be an incentive for people to use cisterns more often.

In this situation I like to take a bowl of berries with me. Once you eat the berries the empty bowl lets you skip making a kiln if you want to plant a small patch of berries for your kids. Make bows and arrows and go back when your kids can pick up the bows. Expect most of your kids to run when you do this though. It's impossible for them to tell whether or not you are the one who is griefing.

Good hints. you can tell your kids to check your mom's line if, like in this case she was also killed. But if you have a good set of gear you don't even need to tell the kids what's going on, just pretend you're scouting or getting resources, they might stay. When they're grown you can tell what's going on. No need to keep boys or even to come back if the killer is still alive.

And Random, yeah, patches of maples are good to hide

Sheep dogs who maybe bring loose sheep back to the flock, ratters who you can command to hunt rabbits, guard dogs that attack aggressive animals coming at you and anyone who attacks you, I also think that while the pitbull change is better, I think that they should just be in the guard dog category with german shepherds and they help protect you. Maybe the poodle can hunt geese since they are water dogs, ect.

pitbulls really could be for fighting bears and boars.

on the other side, me and another dude helped save a last girl from a murderer today. her line is still going strong even though she died minuts later to a wolf.

Killers can check for the girls name to see if she died.

Better to actually hide somewhere. it doesn't matter if the biome is food efficient, the girl wont have to hide forever, she can go back once killer is dead. I dont think grass is at all a good hiding spot but if food is needed yea, grass it is. But as long as it's far that shouldn't be an issue.

You're the last girl, ripped from the arms of your mother. Her killer is after you, what should you do? If you die your entire line ends. But you're not a good fighter and you got no one to trust.

Well, if you have a bag or basket with food just run the fuck away. Very far I mean. Avoid biomes with animals that could kill you such as swamps, badlands and deserts. Snow biome is okay to make an escape, just don't spend much time there.

Make sure you come back only when the killer is dead or you have a girl already growing. Make sure she is hidden and has food when you check the town to see if it's safe. DO NOT go running through dangerous biomes unless you're actually being hunted and/or unless you already have few daughters.

#920 Re: Main Forum » Antibotting ideas? » 2018-09-18 23:04:36

people botting should definitelly be banned. I don't even mind griefing that much, can always hunt the griefers, but bots are just fucking lame.

I would really like Jason to add two things to the unfolding of this game.

1. Alternative trunks to climb to reach the canopy of the tech tree.

2. The canopy to be raised consistently on a regular basis.

And now I will argue against my own first point; one of the beauties of this game is the simplicity. You must get a stone hatchet, a firebow drill, and a snare. You can get by farming with either skewers or a stone hoe, that is an example of two separate trunks for farming, but you cannot carry soil by hand, you cannot put raw soil in anything other than a basket. In real life I could strip the bark from a tree, attach some vines to it (not rope, vines) and haul that bark sled of soil to the location where I want to dump it.
How do you get the soil out of the ground? Scooping it up with a reed basket? That's the only way? Ridiculous. Why could I not have scooped it out with a flat stone into a fired clay pot and carried that on my shoulder? Simply because that has not been added to the game as a use for those items.

Well, all the basic tools should also have alternatives. There is flint and iron in the game, why is there no way to make fire from flint and iron (or steel)? Lightning could strike an old tree once in awhile and start a brush fire that spreads and can be harnessed with a branch before it's put out by rain, ala Rimworld. There could be rare lava exposed in badlands, with the rarity of the gold vein or the monolith, where people could stick a straight shaft, branch or torch that would burn for 30, 60 or 180 seconds or so so the fire could be transported.

And I could think of a dozen alternatives for stone hatchets, thread, rope, etc..

These means of climbing the tech tree could be more biome specific, or at least, we could have one alternative for each item that is currently only found in one biome, which is required to climb the tree. But we don't have that for everything, we do for some things, like stones, just plain old stones, which you can find in grass, rocky, snow or desert biomes. Or flat rocks, which you must have for various cooking and smithing combinations, and only them. Sure, they can be found in badlands and deserts, so at least there is a variety of options there, but whatever I could cook on a flat stone, I could also cook on an iron plate or skillet. Whereas basic smithing could be done on a big hard rock and advanced smithing could be done on an anvil.

Why am I ranting all of this here?

I've been ranting by the exact same thing everywhere. I just wish we had a tad bit more of base tech so there was more for the tree to climb upon. Its like i read my own comments, you even memtioned flint and steel. I just wish we didnt always go grass+swamp+desert if available. Savannahs, for example, lack both tools and soil to be viable while grass has both and early food and stuff to plant. Maybe we get a new biome with more stuff soon, would be the best to me.

pretty much. I think they'll be useful one they though, im glad they exist. Maybe when tree farming becomes a thing we'll get to transport tons of logs or firewood.

i don't even think it was a bad idea to add thm back there. people wanted high tech stuff after weeks of lag and curse updates and before jason's vacation so roads plus rails definitely were such a thing. Its just it's been a while and we're now realizing there aint much to rails yet

#924 Re: Main Forum » Game Mechanics need to be reworked » 2018-09-16 18:31:37

i think we simply cannot progress much without fixing.

currently there is quite a lot of things in game that exist while being not very useful, maybe even broken. pigs and worms come to my mind. The first is a mess, it's meat is barely useful and bones don't disappear. I don't understand why dogs eat mutton and not pork. Worm, on the other hand are pretty much an unused feature, they could be used in mass composting i think, maybe along with new resources.

I agree with multi, the game resetting and people having to climb the same tech again over and over is annoying. Which is why i thnk we need early civs to have more balanced needs and options to deal with those. The game is still young, if suddenly there is some meta shifts that concern early/mid game i'm sure people would be intresred. More biomes or just a tad rebalance of a few current ones could be a way to do it. no one wants to rush grass + water, kiln, forge, farm and sheep forever. if othr biomes had water, or early tools, we'd get a much bigger combination of early civ locations. (best idea for me would be to add a couple biomes with diverse options like savannah)

I think Jason nailed it in big and small farm updates and cooking update but has since gotten a bit rushed (with reason since he had to deal with a lot of non-content coding). He is adding stuff people ask though, which seems to be one of the directions his development takes, along with needed stuff. The issue on that is adding dogs before, for example, tree farming and better hunting seems like a bad choice. More wild meat and the ability to plant trees would allow us to occupy better all biomes, which can be a late game goal by itself.
