By the way I made some hints for new players: (more updated list on the beginning of this thread)
Hints:
- Surviving winter is hard, bad temperature can and will kill you / make damage
- Animals make double damage in winter so take care!
- Your max food pipes are now also your hitpoints
- Having less hitpoints then 20 lowers your speed having more increases it
- The YUM chain boni displayed (corner left) is now your health / general fitness score. It wont give food boni
- The more health / fitness you have the more hitpoints you have and the less you age
- Eating YUM / Cravings increases your health / fitness eating MEH reduces it
- Your relatives eating Eating YUM / Cravings increases your score / fitness
- Relatives wont never reduce your score / fitness except you attack them (so kids are always net positive)
- The more you eat same food the less food value it provides
- Eating YUM / Cravings in between can restore YUM boni from other food
- Eating YUM gives one coin / you can give coins with GIVE X with x=IIX for example 12 and x=IXX = 21
- You have a higher chance to be incarnated to your grave with a grave stone
- You are displayed as cursed if close to your not diged in bones
- Being cursed means you get more damage and have little bit less speed (so others can kill you more easily)
Commands: (may be deactivated or work only on low population later or cost more coins)
- !JH jumps you to a random human player
- !JAI jumps you to a random AI
- !TP teleports you to main village on server
- !TG teleports you to a random grave of you with a gravestone
- ?SEASON or SEASON? displays the current season and how strong it is
- FOLLOW let the AI follow you
- STOP let the AI stop and wait for some secs and also stops following
- DROP let AI drop held object
- GO HOME let the AI go home
- HOME lets the AI set closest oven as their new home
- MAKE XX with X = ID or name / part of the name of object to craft
Private servers are possible. There are also low population servers in the vanilla game you can join by changing the server you log into. If you die at 60 as an eve on a low pop server you will respawn as eve in the same place you died.

Currently im working on Open Life reborn a lot to improve it, so feedback is very much welcome.
Currently in Openlife Reborn you are born close to your old grave with at least a grave stone. So you should be able to work on your village with your friends. Also you can currently teleport to your graves with a gravestone using say: '!TG'.
Later if the AI works well teleporting will be deactivated or cost a lot of coins, yes there is a custom currency ![]()
Currently with say '!JH' you can jump to other humans if there are, this will too be deactivated once twinning is implemented. But for now it can be used to play together with some friends.
The idea is that you build some small village with an oven and so on and the Ai keeps then living there an making babies. So if you join back and have a nice grave close the chance to be born there should be near to 100% if there is a close fertile mom. The Ai could also build ovens and for on, but for now i let the humans decide how the permanent village stuff looks.
Its also quite easy to setup an own server at least according to Colin who tried it out ![]()
There is also the plan to make much better property management then on vanilla server to protect your stuff while being offline. Something in the direction of how Rust has it, or castle doctrine if you know some of Jason other games.

... and if you want, Open Life Reborn is fully written in Haxe, so quite easy to setup and code. Switching to Haxe knowing a C Style language is super duper easy I learned it also on the fly by making the new server.
Since the new server can be compiled restarted in few seconds and saves player data its also super easy to debug stuff and try out new stuff.
And yes combat system is fully redone.
You can hit someone also if not hit the perfect right tile, but then your damage is reduced the more you missed.
Also it uses the exact location to calculate where you are, so it considers also less then full tiles like 0.2 tiles away.
You have now hitpoints equal your max food pipes. So kids have less grown up more unless very old.
Good health / YUM increases also your max food pipes / hitpoints.
Different weapons do different damage.
Clothing protects against some damage depending on insulation.
You get prestige / score mali for attacking kids / close relatives / allies and so on (if they have no weapeon)
For sure it needs some more testing and balancing, but should be much better already then vanilla where only leader can kill.

In new implemented Open Life Reborn you have race boni instead race restrictions. So you can life together in same village and have kids. Kids will inherit color from parents with a chance to adopt to close nature.
Also the score is changed, it depends now on how well you and your close relatives life (YUM). And kids will alsways give positive score.
With nature attacking stronger with time, im thinking about implementing something like this. currently in Open Life Reborn animals can already move much more free / on top of stuff and leave their biome / migrate by chance. They also multiply if on the right spot. So would not be that difficult to implement some attacks from nature if you mess with nature.
Wolfes go already for not burried bones and in winter they go on food search....

in November i plan to spend some more time on development like implementing some basic property protections like chests and doors with number codes to protect your stuff while being offline.
Most stuff should currently work, of course the map is currently quite small, but this is intentional to allow a more alive map. Later it might be increased in size. But it round, so the world should not feel boxed in...
(and the United States had the possibility of annexing Mexico completely after that war, if you don't know), and thus could increase that nation's future survival potential..
By the way, annexing different kind of people is not so easy as you might think. They might rebel even if they have lost a war. Also they might have a total different culture that does not go together much with the culture you have... Also winning some battels and occupying a big chunk of land with tons of people are two different stories. And in case you yourself have a Democracy then good luck with taking in by force tons of new people that can outvote you or at least have a big influence over the outcome...
And to making families meaningful:
Why not ability to create a tool depended on the family?
A family first needs to invent the tool by spending hard X work
Once invented the hole family can make this tool
Maybe also some more skill points for each tool can be added that reduce hungry work when this tool is used?
To make the last living child of a family more meaning full sols close to this family could incarnate as guardians that can speak and help little bit the last kid, but are otherwise invisible.
The last child could even get some last call survival skills depending on the prestige of the family.
By the way currently in Open Life Reborn Players are saved, so families can survive a server restart. The Ai takes over until the human soul reconnects. Also if one has connection problems the Ai takes over until a player reconnects.
Its funny, that Spoon necroed this thread... i found an idea in it which is long time already implemented in Opfen Life Reborn:

Where you incarnate depends on your grave.
Graves with a Stone increase your chance of incarnation there drastically.
Bones not only reduce your chance to incarnate there drastically on top of it you are cursed as long as you are close.
So others see that you are cursed and as long as cursed you will receive also more damage.
With this you can protect an area against a griever.
Also im thinking about implementing a better property system, so that you can protect your stuff while you are offline:
- you can fortify stuff like doors / walls / chests with spending hungry work and some basic stuff like a stone
- you can attack fortified stuff by spending hungry work and using a tool
For example spending 5 hungry work plus a stone on a door the door has a strength of 5 an needs 5 tool uses / hungry work to be removable / loose their owner
- fortified stuff can be owned account based / or alternative with a key that you can carry or that is in your grave
- fortified stuff can be made leader owned and allow all allied access similar to ally gate
this system could also replace then the hole decaying property fences...
The amount of effort to undo fortification would be the same you had making the fortification.
By the way in Open Life Reborn you get an message if one wants to be your ally, so you have some time to exile him before he is your true ally. The grave protection with ally doors should allow to protect against unwanted outsiders...
Also im thinking about allowing directional doors, so from one site you can always open the door. So you could use your grave with grave stone to 'incarnate' inside and then take ownership of the ally doors again...
- additional dogs / tame wolfs and so on could be used to protect the stuff
This would allow to build some kind of 'dungeons' with protected stuff inside.
I tried to use a skewer on clay to make a nozzle, and it gave me some message about being full. I then tried again while full and got the same message, and no clay nozzle.
Also, I used '/leader' and it crashed my client.
What was the exact text of the message?
Yes /leader currently some how crashes quite often the client. Seems like some following information is not how the client likes it. since the client does not give any meaningful debug message i could not yet solve it.

Since the bug list is getting shorter and new mechanics seems to work mostly fine i think its save to say that we reached Early BETA. This means the server is playable but might have some bugs and new mechanics could need more balancing. Also not yet mass tested. Thanks a lot to all the testers going on the journey together. A nice village is developing thx to @vicmortem. perfect to test the temperature mechanics. Ai starts to migrate with the seasons.
Finally thx to vicmortem and jinbaili83 we finally found out why the client got stuck. It waited for a feeding movement to happen... Thx a lot for the testers!
Its not 100% perfect yet but should be 10 times better!

-better movement calculation since client got stuck when fed and waiting for movement of feeding player.
not 100% solved yet, but should be lot better... hopefully...
- Cannot make infinite pies out of one Bowl of Dough anymore

- tries to stay longer in good temperature
- does not wait if place does not help for temperature
As long as you dont eat all the berries or steal their tools have fun! As starter farming and baking is the easiest way to start.
if its not 'your' birth family does not matter except if there are noobs. Since currently in OHOL there is same benefit from being born or coming from outside to the family.
Sorry, by accident i just restarted the server while one was playing. Was backonline after few seconds. At least I used the chance to update...
UPDATE:
near complete rework of hungry work:
- hungry work creates now some heat
- you can only do it if not too much heat
- hungry work cost nearly halved
- iron mine have now like trees alternative outomes that give stones / flat stones on higher mines
- it counts now the hits on a tree or a mine, so even with bad luck at one point the tree / stump will be cut / removed
- all trees should now be hungry work even pines
- pies should now start with full food value after baking
- snow biome should now spread much less fast in winter
- reworked some server stuff to hopefully speed up server reaction time
AI
- should consider now more far away places

UPDATE:
FIX: lot of movement fixes if client is lagging behind the server. Still not perfect but should be lot better.
FIX: try drop player if held by other in reconnect since client cant handle
FIX: Allow use of bow at close range if it is not an moving animal (solves Ai trying to shoot Ghoose)
- Some more custom decay transitions for engines and high end tools (not perfect yet, but an engine wont suddenly fully disapear)
- Give summary of players achievements on age 58
- Give message about coins an how to use it ever 10 years
AI: dont destroy engine
AI: try to die in home at old age
AI: dont try to get water from nowhere with a bowl
AI: better handling of heat (Ai saves where it saw good warm or cold spots and even inherit them to kids)
AI: some more minor fixes
With this update movement lag is excpected to be much less. Also client schould not get stuck anymore after a position force. The Ai should now hopefully handle temperature lot better and try to die at home, so that you can loot it easier.

Though the Ai had another bug since it was constantly putting wild carrots in a bowl and out again. But then i realized, this is actual a legit transition to make a carrot out of wild carrot, since VOG says so...
Seems like slowly Ai is working more in villages, saw a family taking over an town and bringing stuff there. But mostly its still hunting...
