This looks like a good project Lychee and it looks like you're off to a great start.  I wish that the tutorial actually had more areas like the smithing area, so players could get more comfortable with farming and cooking, but I can imagine that it might get argued that such would weaken the 'parenting' aspect of the game.  Anyways, this guide shows a lot of promise and seems good for what it is so far.  And I don't doubt it will take you a good bit of time also.

A while back I made a list of a series of challenges that people could do in the tutorial area (later I thought up more like making a newcomen atmospheric core and trying to make as many buckets as one can... people have made a horsecart also, and I don't doubt other ideas exist or can exist).  Here's that list: https://www.reddit.com/r/onehouronelife … iring_and/ and I hope that adds something to your post.

My personal favorite after breaking out was making backpack, two waterpouchs and a steel mining pick. Then you go around liberating everyone in cool fashion while they are in the torch area or end area. Good times....

I´ve seen several property fence locked areas, I think you are just playing them right in the nose of everyone. Walk a little far from town and make your place close to a corner spring. Don´t hoard stuff, make a klin and oven and show everyone that you made all the stuff you have (if I see you with a cart full of pies and no oven for sure I´m gonna be pissed off).

#606 Re: News » Update: Precious Life » 2019-06-09 18:35:54

After reading a lot of complains and troubles I must say that I would rather change the output to a system where you are sent to donkey town instead of a server denial when you have 0 tokens. That way nobody can complain about a server lifetime account being changed.

Testo applauds. Better game experience overall.

Yeah I knew you were going to be surprised about rabbits lol, I just found it in game accidentally, urban myth is pretty strong XD. Nice guide!

Can I make a few corrections?
- Berry restores 3 food, the server has a bonus of +2 for every food.
https://onetech.info/31-Gooseberry

- Tutorial breakout has a Yew tree at the end not a Lombardy poplar tree.
https://onetech.info/406-Yew-Tree
https://onetech.info/45-Lombardy-Poplar-Tree

- Single Rabbit holes when snared turn into abandoned holes. They come back as growing holes in 1 hour, thus doubling the time to regrow compared to a family hole. It is not that bad if you hunt a single rabbit in a big prairie.

I started with 23 lives without never logging in baby or not. That much I can say.

The server update happened a tiny bit before the client update (I think), and Tarr also experiences something where he used a few lives before his client updated.

Wait. I was playing on server 15 one hour or so before the update, does that mean the tokens also count in low population servers?

On a more serious reply I lost a life because the mod I was using was unupdated. This prompted a login failed from the server and I believe that was recorded as a lost life.

I've seen it at least two times now where I've seen a spring as an Eve (both times on a low pop server).  I think it's a good spot.  I look around a little more to see how good.  I come back to the spot and it's gone.  I even go check 40 tiles away, and there's another spring there.  But, the spring at the good spot is gone.

This is an issue on the relevant page on Github also: https://github.com/jasonrohrer/OneLife/issues/319

Have others seen springs disappearing?

I can vouch for this happening to me a few times. The first time I thought I was just blind until I rechecked the distance to the nearest spring. The second time it just dissapeared after I went back and forth to the same place. I was using zoom mod thou.

In layers top right, select Yesterday's Lives Anim (non anim shows the whole day at once), and probably the Faded base layer. Larger circles are eves.

This is manually updated static data right now. I also haven't spent any time on CDN settings yet, so it may need a refresh, and some people have reported trouble even then.

HOLY SHIT this is better then google maps dude. You are awesome!

Jason did it so less threshed wheat would be produced because a couple people wouldn't stop complaining about all the threshed wheat. He has no idea or didn't put any thought into the value and balance of resources for straw + thread vs straw + straw and it's certainly no social commentary or artistic vision for a much more expensive version of a recipe that no one should ever make to exist.

And idk why so concerned about over-wheat production but not concerned about over-straw production when he got rid of straw decaying.

Because straw is always turned into compost. This has been discussed many times, grain is overproduced because wheat is farmed for straw over grain.

I haven't tested a ball of thread myself, and don't know.

Erudaru only says ball of thread.  I'd think sigmen correct.  Did Valareos forget/not know that a "ball of thread" differs from a "needle and a ball of thread"?  I know I used needle and thread (from milkweed) to make a straw hat last night.

Almost 100% sure ball of thread does nothing on a)straw b)reed bundle.

I feel your pain Pein. Sorry you had to deal with that idiot. I agree the no skill "combat" system is garbage. Dancing with a knife at least meant you had to put some effort into griefing.

Latency should have nothing to do with it.

You can shift-right-click on someone without them being in range of your weapon.  You are then in kill mode against them, and if they ever get in range, they die.

If two people are in kill mode against each other, with the same-range weapon and they come within range, then the one who entered kill mode first wins.  But again, this has nothing to do with latency.

The only way latency would be a factor is if you see someone before they see you (because their client is lagging).

This doesnt work exactly like that, I´ve been stabbed twice being at least two tiles away from my attacker both running in the same direction.

#622 Re: Main Forum » Mini guide: car making mind map / backward engineering » 2019-06-05 17:56:29

Also please don´t start engine production without oil, it´s awful how many new people just start making engine parts when you need iron for the Oil rig and pipes, like seriously, I had once oil after 1 pipe other times 5 or 10. Once I hit it after 17 pipes, no joke. Mean is 5 but variance is too high in a geometric distribution. Get oil first and get the refinery going then start the engine/car production.

#623 Re: Main Forum » Mini guide: car making mind map / backward engineering » 2019-06-05 17:44:13

Pein, optimal for 1 user is:

10 pistons + 2 pulleys in 2 hammer uses

5 Rods in 1 Roller use

2 cilinders 3 pipes in 1 Bore use

2 fuel nozzle 2 precision pistons 1 camshaft 1 crankshaft  6 steel Valve in 2 lathe uses

I wonder if its doable in 1 hammer 1 lathe with very sharp coordination.

Anyways the first two pulleys should come from the first hammer use (2 small pulleys 4 big pulley) -> 2 Big into roller 1Big 1 small into bore/lathe 1Big 1small into engine.

Wow, this guy has some good endurance. This is not spam. I have done this my whole life in games. Rerolling my charakter stats in rpg, restarting games because starting maps sucks. Mostly offline games, but also in online games to find a game, which makes fun. Find a good group to play with and so on... Looks like he searched a very special condition for his game.

Have you ever thought, why we play games? There was also a discussion at other places here. But only to say it short. We play games to have fun. If game makes no fun, we play other games. If there is a way to make a game more fun to play for this player, you can't say stop it. Sure you can or can try. He will find other ways to play a game, which makes fun for him. You can't forbid this. At last consequence you can force this player only to leave and look for another game.

It´s not the vision only, what defines a game. You have also target groups. (OS, desktop/mobile, language, gamegenre, ...) Here we have the problem, that the vision ignores this. Honestly there is also no requirement to increase active player base. Servers can´t handle it. I have read some rewiews and it looks like more players will make only the game more laggy. So it´s easier to keep the player base small and try find some more players, who pay and go away.

This game is declared as "A multiplayer survival game of parenting and civilization building". If you remove eve, you have removed the basic (the beginning) of parenting and civilization building. Forcing a human to do a special role we have enough in real life, we don´t need this in games. It´s always a balance of the designer vision and the player wishes thats make a good game. If you ignore the players wishes, you can win some critics award but not the players.

Yes this is not a game for kids, you´ll find it boring. It becomes spam the moment you are literally spamming 15 times /die because you can only play in one place or can only play one way.

Cap the number of /dies at 40 a day. This would reduce the number of die babies by 25 percent. Put up a counter. If you use them all up you just can't play. This isn't going to reduce the number of people playing because it's so few people who are doing this.

It's not the softest nicest solution but I don't see how spamming us all is helping them get what they want and it's annoying everyone.

Cap it at 15/day, make it count. You get +5 every +50 years old life. Thats pretty lenient, we are just used to choose where we play in the most abusive way.
