i wonder when silly high jum scores make sense, and when not.
whats your experiences and records?

when i was born as female [ruth alapai], 18th generation,  i saw a kitchen full of high variety and high calory food, so i dared to see if i could get to 20 jums.
this was more a test on the effects of getting near 20 jums, if it was worth it, when it might be woth it.
i almost got to 23 jums, but failed to find popcorn in time, so 22 is my record.

remarks:

this gets very silly very fast.
your first 11 minutes you try to get one jum per miute, and you eat whenever you CAN eat, as fast as possible, not whenever you NEED to eat (soon).
so your jum is almost as high as you age till age 12, if not a bit higher than your age.
this is greedy as fuck, because you eat many things with only one empty food thick, up to twenty times in a row, just to rush for high jums.
But it is only greedy, only if it fails to reach at least 15 jums.
It can be worth it when you reach roughly 17 jums, due to cumuulative effects of higher jum scores, you just end up being unable to eat anything, for very ling intervals.
and you likely already have 2 to 4 more jum foods in your backopack, it means no worries, for the rest of your days....

you are kinda forced into a break of jum-hunting around age 15, baby time break, but you also wait next to the fire, so you likely dont have to eat for 2 years, four tibes in a row.
thers a choice here, to feed many babies of others, tto eat more different food faster, or to give babies to others, when theres currently not as many different foods.
by the time yxou pass 17 jums, you notice, that your eating breaks get insanely long, and the 20th jumish eating breasks can last 5 to 8 years.

it helps if there are a lot of rabbits caught near the fireplace. and if the kitchen is full of goose/turkey.
having a backpack is important for this.
having a well run kitchen is important for this.
having a lot of kindling everywhewre is important for this (some jums need hot coals, and that asks for minor wasting of kindling sometimes)
having ketchup and baked potatooes gave me a great head start here.
having the more exotic mexican foods helps (i did not eat pancakes, but a high variety of spicy foods)
get your own carrots into the bakery, most people just make rabbit pie, this is fine, its just "mewh" very quickly. you likely need to make your own berry, meat and carrot, pie (and spare for others).

one important trick here is to grab a cart or horse at age 12, to hunt for jums that resspawn slowly, with a flint,
and hopefully return with a bagpack and cart of jums before age 14, for a baby time break., and you are pretty much set till age twenty and can just calmpy observe
and make sure to get high variety food made (and assist making it for others)

you ave to acoid the fireplace a lot, because this is where stabbings and force feedings happen.
while hunting for high jums, you must act neutral and avoid any conflict.
while getting my twentytwo jums, there where two murder incidents at the fireplace, and i just didnt give a fuck.
this just wastes too much time that you may just not have at any moment.
between babies you have a LOT of time assisting in smithing nearby, when you are at roughly 15 jums.

I reached 22 jums, and there was no fishing involved, and no meat pie.
I still ony got 4 kids (not counting sudden infant death) within the usual long intervals.

the utility of this is very situational.
it sure makes you ready for war or bears, when you do not have to eat for 5 minute long intervals, you can in theory hunt a lot of animals (bears) or people.
this also means, you could transport a cart full of water buckets, from further away wells, with not much of a road along the way.

main lessons learned:
scout the base before age 6, to see where what is being made, and if it is even worth trying to get high jums (it may just not be worth it at any moment)
scout for skewers early, they are sometimes further away than is compfortable.
learn ALL skewer recipes, egg and butter related things, and how to make ENOUGH popcorn.

i see more migratrive tribes recently
mostly the "disney" family, that sometimes insists on being females only, but doesnt get too far with that.
duisney has met other tribees, and managed to evade them, by just migrating elsewhere.
the disney family somehow believes, that moving only sixhundred east is somehow "far", which i can easily disagree with.
but this is fine, slow and steady migration.
they just too easily forget all the riches and iron that they just let behind, for no good reason, after getting horses in a new base, they seem to have forgotten their origins.
but i didnt, its just sixhundred away after all.

if anyone says "far" that really just means "right next to"

nonetheless, i LOVE the trails that such migrative tribes leave behind.

so i kept moving east, where ever a dumb family just ran out of fertiles, due to not eating well or not staying warm, the usual incompetences.
and usually i see this coming, and get prepared, making papers with someone who agrees, as memorandum or lesson for whoever may find these ruins, or as attemts at mapping distances between dead places.
or just to write down silly stuff as act of defiance.
And i find much older ruins, and one of them had the layout of fina-spawn.
west of that i placed letters in crates and next to a monolyth. so you may more easily find it.

so, are all ruins the same layout (is someone always builsing two stone houses adjacent) ?

we sure seem to have completed a full cycle in one week, which may mean, that interestring ruins can be found, when riding 2 k straight east.
interestring here means, stone building, surrounded by trees and rope. nothing to loot there, all of that despawned by now.
but you save time with building stone walls.
and you slightly more likely find ore to the west right now.
sure, ores respawned east, but you may wewant to search ore outside of the spawn circle, and not inside of it.

i have a pretty detailed map of the connected cities on bs2.
it does have its larger buildings, shaped a bit like castles, here and there.

the trick to cooperations is to make a bond with players that are born near you (in space and time)
you are stuck at the same fireplace for three minutes together, might aswell form some kind of bond.
its as simple as repeating the first two (or four) letters of their name, wait till they say ANYTHING, and then you jsut repeat what they sayd, for the rest of your life.
its usually just two letters, and its a signature, of a bond, between 2 players, that lasts 50 minutes.
whenever you search your soulmate, just repet these two letters, its short text, barely annoying for anyone who has no clue what is going on.

or it lasts longer in one case, where i was born into the [bond] family, next to [james bond] and i just kept repeating "ja"
and [james bond] parroted men a lot, and made up the "had toggle gesture" as nonverbal play.
we ended up greeting each other with "ja" "ja" many times while passing by each other, and made a "remove hat often" gesture.

i took this a step further, a way too big step.
i dedicated my whole life to excessive paper making, i made like twenty papers, all my 60 minutes. and aftere 30 minutes, the first papers where ready.
so heres the joke, i greet him with "ja" twenty times, and i make 20 papers in the town center, and noone bothers me.
and then i greet [james bond] while making pencil and paper, and a backpack full of paper.
and i write four "ja" notes in a row.
then four more, then four more, and then four more.
almost all of the papers only read
"ja"
and [james boond] laughted at this bonding waste of paper

some later papers read
"jajajajajajaja", this was a goodbye letter, considdetr them "rare cards that beg for attention"
and some letters read
"ja ja", i made these in old age, in memory to [james bond]

so
if you ever wondered by the [bond] town has all these "ja" letters, thats the backstory. my old bond with james bond, that lasted fifty minutes.
i hope he has this as recorded stream somewhere.

---

in another life, the bonding phrase was "LA" and the gesture as whistling, so we were Roleplaying as "the singing couple"

---

bonding with someone your age has ingame advantages,
you likely end up with similar jum chains and hunger priorities.
you have roughly the same knowledge about the state of the town, and may end up in the same profession, coordinating and cooperating.

the two letter bond phrase makes it easy to find your soulmate.

i keep telling people what tool just broke while i used it.
this usually gets me murdered just for breaking three axes, while making kindling, or the whole swamp-and-jungle-town a lot safer.

#582 Re: Main Forum » Annoyances with One Hour One Life » 2019-06-22 19:51:33

when i make roads, i start by making ten to fourty stakes, and place them in a line. its the proper order of operation.
i got murfered five times by now while doing that, and the murderer claimed i was griefing.

also, just taking the flat stone from the forge, even while they have no iron, and enough steel and flat stone within fifty tiles, to build a road nearby, gets the whole city wanting to murder you forever instantly. they are just so insecure about their forge crap, just parroting each other, never moving more than onehundred tiles away from the big berry farm.

transporting a lot of food out of a messy overflowing kithen to fireplaces and forges (a great thing to do while younger than 12), gets many newbies to confuse you for a thief.

this is just nuts.

#583 Re: Main Forum » Punishment Zone » 2019-06-22 19:46:24

oh cursing has so many silly flaws.

unnamed players are immune to cursing, and this tempts them to grief and distress, till they get murdered or named.
dumb moms naming many (or all) their sony "myson"
cursing or revenge-murdering the wrong person, whos first three letters of the name where identical to a griefer, and they just happened to be in the same area. and babies may only be able to say the fiorst three letters.

here is how ohol-diplomachy worked, and could work better (but kinda expliting a glitch or two), with the game as it is.

step one, murder everyone in a town that you dont like; seeing a town that is a baby murdering cult that builds an end tower, and somehow manages to fail to hunt nearby baears for two days,is a decent reason to do so. (this step is optional)
step two, in the murdered babymudering cult village, realize that there are wstill many people in the family, just not in the city that you just cleaned, and find a letter that claims "we migrated five k east". and all that, long after you were born to an eve, that actually did just that, happily migrate east in a cart, with up to 4 babies alongside. (thats just a lucky context bonus)
step three, while preparing a long yourney west, and while traveling, kill all of your babies with a knife, you are last survivor of a death cult after all, and you want this town to go down in
some style.
Its just proper manners by now. (this step is optional, i killed like 6 of my babies with a knife, i wonder whom)

step four, be surpised to find a village just 1,25 k west, that you where born into previously, and that you liked a lot, but the problem is, this is a foreign village, and the communacation cypher and genocides are a thing that happens in the game, a lot.
step five, keep talking different texts, while riding around, always keeping a distance from anyone (to not get murdered, which is a likely outcome if you get too close too soon, if only because you are outnumbered and strange).
step six, ride back east, and drop all your baggage, except for one kife in your backpack, that you only show to have, to keep hostile people at a distance from you.
an important part here is to never bring a sword and to never get off your horse and never too close too fast. this is just way too threatening behavior and you are likely just outnumbered, not worth diing for.
step seven, approach mothers with 1 year old babies and keep talking to them, from a distance you deem safe for yourself, as long as there is noone with a weapon nearby. else retreat.
- this tested my thesis; how babies learn foreign languages faster. its hard to get a feeling for how ling it takes someone in what age to learn a foreign löanguage. rule of thumb, assume its like five years till you get any success. and the first three attemopts may likely fail and end in some confusion.
step eight, serch any written or unwritten paper or pencil, repediately drop it, its a gesture for communication. (i am surptised that this worked, nonverbal communication in this game matters)
step nine, tell the babies; "babies learn languages faster" and "tell them to make paper" (this was an experiment i wanted to ttry, and oh boy, i did NOT expect the outcome i got AT ALL from the "make paper" command) :

I see people attempt morse code, this codec is pretty much dead, a too small percentage actually can read morse code. i think its a waste of time and a cheat. (much worse than the cheat that i discovered below, becausae morse code is as hard to filter as penises in minecraft)
it is true, that babies can be used to translate between adult foreigners, but tricky for the older players to understand. it easily creates a LOT of confusion, while not everyone can read everyones text, but only the younger ones can.
but it is a lot more fun in the context of the game to roleplay this one out.
step ten, this is where the magic happens (i discovered a glitch in the scrambler) :

------
----
---

letters can be used to translate foreign languages: (this may be a glitch to be fixed soon, as it makes absolutely no sense to work this way, except within video game logic) :
Any text chat is scrambled, this includes reading a written note, because it is always read out aloud.
BUT; if a foreigher writes a note, and gifts it to you, and you read it, you will read it WITHOUT SCRAMBLING CYPHER. this method bypacces the scrambler, but only if you gift the note that you just wrote on your language, and have a foreigner read the note himself.
that means, write a letter, gift it, and let it be read. and this way you can transmitt a lot of information between foreighers that can not communicate otherwise (as fast)

first i managed to tell a baby to make paper, and they first brought paper that THEY wrote onto, which was a silly nonsensical short nnote they just rushed to me, BUT when everyone realized, thast gifting a note is a way to bypass the scrambling cypher. (as describbed above and by the posted images)
Then we all made three new papers together, and then everyone realized that:

PAPER NOTES CAN BE USED TO TRANSLATE
PAPER NOTES CAN BE USED TO TRANSLATE
PAPER NOTES CAN BE USED TO TRANSLATE
(its a silyl glitch, that i love, for the hell of getting towns to make paper, just assume that every note comes with its rosetta stone attached to it)

we managed to exchange three letters. i wrote the fiorst two, because i wanted to know HOW they would scramble, if it is client side or not, ect... (i would hopefulkyl be reborn into the village
and then read it scrambled, i assumed, wrongly (i was just too busy to realize as much as the 6 other villagers around my understood by then))
therefore these three letters read:

"dead town one k and a quater east"
"theres a town four k west" (I later searched and never found)
- i just wanted to  communicate anything valuable)
"are you from the dead town? love if yes." (written by the village i found to the west, and only then i realized the glith, that paper can be used to translate (i was distracted by the whole situation))

and i manaed to get a young baby as translator, who could speak to both for a while (ten more years for me to live), told him that i likely would be reborn into this village soon, and i was.
reborn into the villave; i rode further west, 4 k far, where notes claimed a village to be, but found nothing, and returned with iron, that they needed.

----
---
--

the key ingredient here is paper that noone has written onto. (or letter stock, to make a puzzle of glyphs)
and i am pretty sure that any letter stack (signs) are always unscrabled, and roman numerals are cheap letters, usable for direction, distance and amounts.

and you need to teach, that younger players lern foreign languages faster, before you get killed for paranoid greed, and these children can be told to make paper, to communicate with foreigners.

yes, people steal steel, make locks from it, and just hide many war swords in one spot, to go there on foot as eve, ro rape and pillagge.

its how some play this game.

#588 Re: Main Forum » Mini guide: letters » 2019-06-20 20:49:15

wow, this system is just really dumb gamedesign.
dumb as in, most of the game is great abstracted simplification, but for no good reason the crafting of glyphs is very detailed and wasting many resources with its obsessive detail.
too many different ingredients. codec should be more binary.
Huffman-coding morse-code would have been better?
that actually teaches something somewhat worthwhile, to a point, where the radio light may actually be read by people, using the same morse-code.

defining a [signed distance field] to a glyph of any alphabet is an art in itself, that gains fame on www.shadertoy.com , ever since mercury.sexy/hg_sdf (and inigo quilez homepages) inspired many, with various spartial folds and carthesian to polar tranlations.
but in the end, you can simplify all glyphs (in allcaps) to quater circles and straight lines.
The same "simpler is better" princimples seem to apply to any SDF, you are easily tempted to define many different precise shapes, but in the end, you really just need an ellipsoid and a smooth-minimum-union (and quaternion rotation), to sculpt almost anything efficiently in high detail.
SDF for glyphs most common application is how [team fortress 2] comprersses text for decals, as an [SDF] scales and compresses very nicely.

#590 Re: Main Forum » The story of the iron brothers. » 2019-06-20 16:49:07

iron is easy to get, the trickier part is to teach a dumb city to farm milkweed, and bring kindling.
i saw way too many abandoned cities, with tons of iron and steel, but no kindling and no axe anywhere to be found, they just burned it all and then died in the cold, with not enough axes, and null kindling, without a kitchen the hunger leads to murders and low birth rates, and then the campfire fizzles out.

the hell, they likely claimed that a person, who took an axe to make kindling, was a griefer to be murdered, i had such dumbasses a lot, too. to a poi9nt where it may just be an idiot who parrots a griefer, who used this as a false flag attack, just to grief, without being cursed, because dfumb people are easily fooled.

that lesson; of making kindling and farming milkweed, is best told NOT in text chat, but by luring four to eight bears into any city that failed to farm milkweed AND that lacks kindling and carts and roads/horses, but only has a wway too big berry farm full of idiots that just stack all the things, instead of processing all the things.

i killed many towns that where obviously full of newbies, where noone bothers to explore for milkweed.
it ends and prevents (!) suffering of babies that get born into a hopeless town.

the trick is to never lure single bears, but always groups of 2 to four bears at once.
you must not get seen luring a bear, but you surround a city with bears.

smart villages have enough rope, scouts and arrows to quickly respond to this woth very little life and time lost, so its basically hunting aid and not even griefing.
dumb villages just help me to lure all the bears to the campfire. ive seen it many times.

dumb cities must die.

upoloading 2,5 mb of the war raid of the finas, from almost a week ago, that went downaards along the black line of our maps, and captured the town that i now call "fina library", which seems to be the first town to have build a radio transmitter, and also roads to six nearby towns.

we kissed, she broke iup with me age 12, "its not you its me"
i wrote "i should buy a boat"

later she apologized and wanted to marry me
i got us a horse, then she died due to going afk age 24.

#593 Re: Main Forum » fina warzone map » 2019-06-20 15:48:56

i think the maps fit pretty well:
https://mega.nz/#!ogEFwCoa!8BM5rkDPdbRe … EgnxNhQiTk

of course towns change owners from day to day, and its hard to tell their origin.
its not as hard to tell who contributed the most to a locale.

fina library is now well populated by 15to25 females.
i call it fina, cause they held most cities and build most roads for the longest time.
it has many texts from the "tree" family with its jungle road, the two cities where down to null population for many hours, and then repopulated every now and then.
fina was 20 fertiles for continuous 6 hours one day. then england decimated it, and fina struggled with low biirth rates for four hours.

theres now two towns with radios, one is just lacking the last half antenna, and i know of no locale with a reciever.
you might want to build recievers first, and place recievers between smith-bakery-campfire, so its in range of many to read, but not too close to clutter or confuse.
also, place radios not near a campfire, but near the cemetary, because old people have longer better stories to tell and the campfire is just way too chatty, often without intent or context.
cemetaries usually attract boxes full of letters, and the place with the radio-transmitter-area may become a library to store great and nonsensical propaganda to share.
by knowing what letters are transmitted by radio, you may have a guess where the transmitter is located.

last week [fina] dominated in the culture of connecting many nearby cities with roads.
it ended up in collecting many written notes in the center of it, in a great library.
it became so big, that i had to relocate it to the building northeeast, and turn the library into a building that holds 6 warswords, and 10 arrows.
but before most roads and that library were build, it was a war zone, attracted by 3 bells close together, and lots of warbabies anmd murder.

i managed to map a lot of it. the map is rough, but you may be surprised how close together many towns were, and who fought whom for the longest times.

its a large collection of images, in different zoom levels, hard to stitch together, especially with swithing home-marker references.

rough overview:54de695cad597628435c55a62e26434c-full.jpg

these towns were founded in a time where eve-spaenwd further southwest over time.
it seems they now spawn further west over time.
some ruins in the near southwest are significantly older (only roads remained) because they had the bad luck of just being more isolated by distance, or founded abd diing before all the bells started ringing.
i am pretty surew the "tree" family was one of those older more distant towns, i found it sw of fina, nothing left of it but its "drunk road", which was quite uniquw in its s-shape.

"murder town" was the west town of 2 towns that connected early, and that jhas significantly higher murder rates all the tinme.
north oof it is a "shrine" whos doors are now blocked by incomplete engines. and which holds treasure, worth wasting a new pickaxe on.

i am not sure where england spawn is, either north or southwest in this map. its twothousand distance from fina library from what i have been told

general tip, while younger than three years, you should always try to bond with babies the same age as you via:
- whistling
- paying around with your clothing
- right klicking the other tile wrestling
and most importantly
- repediately write the name of other people (and know your own name)
- - this is critical for attention and memory, so you know and find your partner quickly.

the last part is critical, you must repediately call the name of one other person, the same age as you, from birth on.

it also helps if you try to wear the same color dresses, or just anything slightly more unique, so you can find each other in crowdts.

this has fun benefits:
- A lot of professions are more efficient and more fun in cooperation.
- - Especially hot-froe-on-azde-on-buttlog orgies in jungles, where you mass produce carts and kindling in a team of two or three.
- - hunting is also more efficient in a team of two, when only one has a cart to reap the fur and meat.
- - one person may chose to bring food, only one person may have and need a cart.

you quuickly get fun cosenames to items and people. "i got froe" becomes "i got the sex toy"

this often ends in roleplaying marriages, disregarding gender this is always hillarious.
this often ends up in a tragic death sequence, the happies version is, when you know youre both roughly 55 years old, you must meet at the central campfire and ask for:
- [name] lets get nude in the jungle [direction] for a final banana orgy.
- lets get nude in the bananas [direction]
and then you just spend the last four years running off into a FAR away place, full of chopped trees and bananas, in the nude (all clothes left at the campfire) and die together, far away from the city center.

it is a bit sad that you can not make traps.
i would prefer nonlethal traps, otherwise they may hurt too much or hurt the fron people unintentionally.

like a cage trap. you can feed anyone trapped inside from outside.
but the trap is shut for a minimum time, and after that, thre trap can only be opened from the ooutside.
