thanks for improving the core game mechanics for us.

I personally are hoping there will be new mechanics in the update in two weeks

I like the update but these fixes don´t change core game mechanics at all.

- Off screen murders are a visual improvement.
- Container swap is an amazing qol improvement.
- Pads in apron is a great qol improvement. It also has the potential to become meta for attackers (fighting medics)
- Rubber trees, popcorn containning, scrapping steel, wheat, floors: qol.
- Dogs arestill useless, now they are long term useless.

Why would he be Pein of all people? Pein has proved to be not the nicest character in the forums but he has also proved to care a lot about the game and more importantly he has added high quality content here. Read any of Pein´s guides. Now compare to ollj. It just doesn´t make sense.

I guess I've changed my mind on the skill system. This does make sense to me. I agree that there should be a system that forces a progressive crafting and I suppose that would be a skill system. I just don't think the skill system should be so restrictive that you can learn only one trade. It should be possible to be the jack of all trades, master of none, and it should be possible to focus a whole life on being the engineer.

It is all good to be a jack of all trades, and maybe master of one. It is just not realistic being able to do anything at any age for everyone. The biggest crafting control beside available resources is not being able to pick a knife, rocks or a Newcomen core while under 12-14, wich is actually a good byproduct from childhood modeling.

i roleplay the mass murderer of greedy fuckers (and people who tolerate them in their town) , that lures 7 bears to a greedy town full of property fences and selfish thiefes, while jason tortures me with being born 4 times in a row into a greedy griefer city, so its cleansing time, luring 3 to 5 bears at once, and either trying to steal the too few arrows and too many bows they have, or just shooting one arrow in each of 4 bear further away from their base:

Bears kill half of them, 3 times lured a group of three bears to resach their base, 7 bears total surrounded their base, where in their farm and property fences (some bears lured multiple times in multiple lifes).
The greedy base that lacked bear hunters and arrows was a zoo full of bears. (i first lure bears, then i take arrows, thers no bear warnings, and if they make 4 arrows, the luring stops, they prove skill to deal with bears and its no longer city kill time)
inside and outside of their property fences, bears everywhere
they failed to hide inside of anything.
they ate ALL the berries of their greedy farms, ending with the awesome choice to starve, or to run out of their thief bases, to let bears into the thief bases to eat their starving babies.

i enjoyed their screams "bears in the farm" "bears east" "watch out for bears south" "three bears west" "shitttttttt" "bears everywhere" "youre safe inside (these fenches) here" (no youre not) "bear inside there (property fenced area)"  "lol, this is a zoo now"
They only had one skilled player, who managed to get three arrows, and shot three of seven bears, before i reduced their arrow count to two.
but thast was too little too late. and they sure failed to see me take away their arroes all the time, while luring more bears.

The remaining dumb warrior tribe died by mosquitoes 100 tiles north of their abandoned incompetent town, shouting "to war", but mosquitos and greed sure got the best of them.
i kinda wondered if anyone of them made it wanywhere, but alas, i never got reborn into that tribe, so its presumed dead. (confirmed by family tree linked below, they only lived for 3 more generations of warbabies and death cults with more knifes than brains, but there is still a DIFFERENT "ziv" family somewhere, not to confuse with this now deat ziv-impostors.)
if you find a ruin with property fence northwest, 7 bears around, just go north a bit for a lot of loot in the jungle.

I was never hunted, i was never cursed, they never knew who i am. because smart people are not greedy fuckers, they where jut too dumb to live long, too dumb to hund bears, but greedy enough to steal stuff into  priivate properties.

the last three of my 4 lifes there were
http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=4907395 (at one moment lured fife bears at once, but 2 of them went astray) "five bears fine"
http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=4907424 (just spectating bear mayhem) (made most screenshots)
http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=4907395 (whitnessing a suicidal warpath, that ends im two mass killings, a doomed baby boom in the jungle and many mosquito deaths.

and what do you know, i never killed anyone with a weapon, but that family tree is full of murderers.
http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=4907395
killed many, and she died by one of my bears. she had it coming.

looks like i did not finish of the ziv idiots. that goes thanks to
http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=4907395
who killed her mother, and four of her siblings and one of her babies at age 0. well, thats what i call great grief, that i wanted to prevent with bears.

---

the ziv name rebooted with a ziv-eve with me playing as
http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=4909625
that eve found ruins for a quick stasrt into mass murders to happen. but i miswsed out on them for most of my life there.
By gen 5 it was a very nice town with very high cake variety and a fuckton of rabits snaresa and carts nearby.
The area was very clear of bears, one bear griefer was a complete joke, bear died fast, and i killed 5 bears at old age, and saw 5 more empty caves, ten total (someone hunted them long ago, seems they learned a lesson).
The stabbing suring my life there only started when i was 58 years old, when my bear hunt ended, i could say "yay murder" and shot an arrow into a murderer, and get murdered, two for one once again, at old age i could not care less, an idiot wasted his young life, stabbing an old women. i already knew that ziv-players fail to even try to curse.
they never leant to not make excess knifes, or to just murder the traitors that make excess knifes.

later the family tree shows me, that rebooting ziv-eve killed her grandson at age two. he lkely had it coming?
the murder thiefes learn slowly.

I like to RP in forums too. Preferably seeking for extra attention, with seemingly important posts, maybe even a little content here and there, just to bait some replies. I even managed to get Jason to direclty answer to me once and Tarr twice!!! I am such a wonderful roleplayer.

#559 Re: Main Forum » Will we get content soon? » 2019-07-04 13:22:34

Polishing existing unused objects is a lot better than adding new ones for now. Consider unused food, pine constructions, dogs, fences, pigs, letters, paint for walls, tracks, locks, property gates, fishing. All of them are pretty side content that could be useful with a little rework. I am not even talking about the mother of wasteful content: wheelbarrow.

It makes no sense that a farmer can at the same time be smith, engineer, cook, tailor etc.

In real life these skills are learned in a lifetime and take practice to get right but you cant do everything, if your parents are farmer then you learn it at a young age then you decide what you want to do in life, but you will have already better knowledge of farming.

There is a reason we have specializations in real life and that's one of the reasons we trade.

It's not about some players being against war, this game simulates civilisations, war is part of human civilisation history, why did they happen?

Most of the time because of ressources or territory which equals ressources, so if they are infinite no war will happen, also having every village built being culled over and over again is not interesting, it's like a forced wipe every 2-3 days.

There is no long term goal or consequences in the game atm it's just a perpetual reset with no way to prevent it.

Give this man a cookie, he is holding the right tree. The game crafting mechanic is flawled, hence, tech design is not a thing but a short linear progression.

What if you actually had to master making certain tools (like make a full set of steel tools or make a number of them) to unlock the ability to craft a Newcomen Core. Holy molly, then it is actually quite important who gets to make those extra shovel and axe.

What about a restriction to harvest to those that actually planted a similar seed... Hey! farming not so cheap anymore is it?

What if you had to learn how to use a bow and arrow on a human by first humting every other animal. Hey, war archers become a real job now... (Also prevents griefing since you need to kill a seal, rabbit, mouflon, wolf, bison, turkey and bear just to start using the bow on people).

I doesn´t make any sense that a 4 year old jumps out of fire, picks a bowl of berries and starts crafting an engine. None.

However, all this model requires smart design on the crafting and tech tree. As it stands in the game, crafting is limited exclusively by resources, wich is a ridiculous way to model civilization.

There's the issue of redundancy though. Griefing becomes a bigger issue if every member is vital to survival. Killing any member will be a major blow to a small village. And with current combat mechanics of attacker ALWAYS winning, even if it's an 8 year old Vs a 30 year old man with prime strength, griefing will be magnified i'm afraid

I believe griefing can´t be erased. But it can be stronly discouraged (ie high penalty for the 8 year old killing a 30 year old man). There is also the time cost involved: most griefers aren´t dalol  or toxic´s level of dedication, they are just in for a quick fix of "I can just shit around your work and you don´t get to defend yourself because anonymity trololol". So I disagree about an increase in griefing under this idea.

In my experience, OHOL players find traditions tedious. Or worse, griefing (e.g., Bob cult)

Come on, Bob cult was hardly a meaninful tradition and had a high risk of protecting from curses. How many places have you heard in human history that named all the people the same?

And traditions could be a good thing if players had an incentive to keep them, they are tedious because they become a meaningless repetition of someone elses expresion.

If we make it crafting harder such that not everyone can make everything - might encourage trade but the learning curve might get steeper, that will make getting new player base even harder , which this game sorely needs

If we make it too easy, no trade will happen , like now - which I could argue isn't actually too easy - it's just that 90 percent of current players are veterans. Newbies will ask for stuff made in their favour, guaranteed

If we make the world more finite, more justified wars will happen, but we already see a good chunk of the players here are absolutely against any concept of war , though IMO war sword or no it will still happen if desperate enough, humans are ingenious - I think thief on chariots will become a thing - zoom in to iron pile while no one is watching, load em up and zip away

Currently, world is infinite and we have boredom wars

I think solving this is basically solving the Theory of Everything .

I wonder if imitation is exclusively a human process. As you said, imitation, fear and respect are hard to simulate.

Art is a very good way to develop a cultural trait (not even thinking about tradition at this point tbh). It´s a shame the strongest motivation for artistic expression is also lacking in the game smile

I think slot boxes full of jobs or town laws are an increasingly present form of cultural expression. Whether or not future generations keep those traditions is up to them but I think that's like real life too. If you think back on human history, culture in any given country can change drastically every decade. So that means if the culture of your town lasts even close to the full sixty minutes of your life, then culture is actually progressing quite slowly.

That is true. However, there are several psichological aspects of culture in real life that are not possible to model in the game. The more relevant unmodeled aspect: identification. Without an external reward to keep any cultural trait, new generations in game simply can´t reach the real life reward of cultural identification.

Don't be a griefer. Sure Hope is an overly saccharine and cliche name. It's NOT a name given for malice or 'trololol' reasons but instead invokes joy and happiness in the name giver. Honestly I suppose that name being related to the last girl is in fact persistant OHOL lore we created in this world. For some it might be even sweet.
Don't ruin that for those people that enjoy it or are just a participating party in it by being scum griefers.

Amen brother (?sister)

It's just a name guys, get over it. Most shit troll names are not even valid for use.

Your actions define you, not your name.

I agree with you but I still think mass naming babies all the same (and specially those who aren´t yours) is griefing. Steve, Bob and Adolf aren´t bad names. But they are used to troll periodically. Even worst, naming all people the same protects griefers. Don´t be a troll. Trolls are griefers. Killers are not (neccesarily).

I agree it is overused but it is hardly annoying because theres no Hope cult. Names that I hate and /die to: Steve, Adolf, Lazer, Bob. Everytime I see someone mass naming kids I try to murder him.

My thoughts exaclty. Replenish rate is way too high, for me 12 lives +1 each hour was the best in terms of selectivity, you actually had it hard to /die and be picky about your camp/town/city. Having *3 lives/hour means you get 3 free times to select your game each time you play.
