Mini guide: horses, horse carts, a way to motivate milkweed production

Lately i been doing it a lot, very early
as i can make very fast pens with property fences https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=6039
i can rush the shears, the knife and sheep skin
from no tools to pen and basic tools i did 26 min so if you got the iron then you can get a horse fairly quick

even if not, getting horses is quite good for later

the idea behind it is that people see horses and start farming of milkweed so they can catch it with a lasso
horses are biome locked, meaning that they cant leave the biome they placed
so if the biome is tiny, like 4x4, they cannot run out as long as there is no other same type biome 8 tiles around it
so you can stop with horse without fences on those stops
you can also put some items in the biome to block diagonals

they can be found in deserts, generally bottom left since the changes in animal loading
jason changed something that animals don't move until you are ear them, instead of don't move until you are in sector (sectors are predifined grops of squares, quite similar to awbz max range, you might have seen it when you got lag, a part of screen is covered in fog, a white "edge: which is similar to jungle pattern
anyway ever since the changes, animals go on bottom left part of their biome
this also means that you rather stop on an item 3-4 tiles from a snake, wait until it moves once and then go ahead, if you try stab them running from off screen, they will move right away as you approach them
and if you unlucky, they move toward you and an item blocks them so you might step on them

i cant really prove it, or know the reason but generally i can find deserts NW to the city
maybe because the viable spots where a good city can thrive is like 100 tiles SE from a huge desert
there are exceptions but as long as you don't know the map, you can go any direction so worth a try

Generally the jackpot system means that if you can find one horse, you find multiple
so don't lock it into a fence, drop it into a small biome
wild horses got higher range than other animals (except bear)
they can move around 8 in any straight direction

so once you got a horse to a small biome next to your camp
go back and get some more, at least one more

lock the last one to a fence and make a saddle. needs shears for yarn ball to make it cheaper on milkweed, and sheep skin so a knife
also a carrot, wild carrot also good

attach a cart to it, so if you step on a snake, it wont die to it just tips over
horse carts are immune to all animals but snake
so you can safely run fast in all biomes except desert

lately i seen people taking horse carts forcefully
please just dont
older people spend time going out on foot to get horses and you steal them and waste their time
ask them first
you might want a small property gate and a fence of like 2x2 inner size, and put the fence for horses inside, this way people see the name on gate and at least ask for it.
2x2 inner is not big, you can store some items inside but others cant really be mad about such small fence
even if you get iron or whatever, think about that the person made 400 or more tiles on foot to get a lasso, then probably had to get shears and knife and carrot, a fence to make a horse cart
so it would be polite that the first route you make with a horse is another lasso or more, allowing others to ge more horses, or scout out and get one for yourself

so far i tried to get 6 or more horses in small biome near camp, coming back in 3 hours all of them were taken, this means 2 ropes for lasso and 1 rope for cart. that's quite a lot for each horse, so if they plant milkweed you might get overall more ropes and more compost for the camp.

best things to look for with a horse cart early on:
-straight branches, lot of times you need extra for tools, carts, and a horse cart can get 8 shafts quite quick
-ropes and lassos, if you go without basket, you can get 4 lassos, which  can be cut into ropes, you can also take 3 ropes per basket but it will take more assembling it
-iron, quite obvious, find a vein  or just lose iron
-lost clothes: generally 150x150 you will find a lot of dead people with packs and clothes on them
-take bones out far away and bring back soil, clay or stones, limestone, anything

with the new springs, people make roads
today i tried something what i did back in early ages
people without zoom an be decent players and i guess they appreciated my efforts
first you go and get 6 shafts, two by two, take home and convert it to fences
then take stakes and a round stone in pack, with some food
then a shovel

now you go out and place stakes and create fences near each spring, or strategic locations like rabbit clusters, soil pits, closest jungle with rubber and sulfur
the reverse horse gathering: make a fence in a biome with many horses, go home and drop
take a cart with carrot, lasso and saddle, lock the horse to fence, feed it, put saddle and cart, go home

good places to put fences:
-above kiln, on a side, helps dropping iron and limestone, clay
-above oven, helps dropping wild wheat, grain in bowls, meat, rabbits
-inside pen ( make sure is 5x5 or bigger, then you can have a fence in middle, also one near oven)
-near spring sites, generally you want a road near it and above springs, so put the fence 2 away from spring to left/right/top
-near cisterns: you can get 4 buckets of water to it, you can have cisterns in a collecting location and on a target location
-near bell tower: visitors have it as home marker, they might come with horse carts
-under pen: easiest to make saddle near the pen
fences also act as walls so you might use them in pen wall too
-any work location which is separate
-any suitable outpost

this is more viable after planting some maple, as you get close by branches each hour
a good fence grid makes boring jobs viable, like people might go out on a horse, gather kindling with baskets and hatchet
you can also move fences, just take shovel and mallet, stakes and round stone, once the area is empty of resources, remove fence and put on different location
you can make extra shovel and adze, then make 2 fences from branches outside city on the go, and place them further and further
the new springs are on a grid so each 40 tiles having one of them can be very helpful later on
people can go with horse and make the wells, make roads to it
small farms and outposts

When no girls left, people can take off on horses to find other families
