Wells are tied to families. So if the family dies out the well will reset after 30 minutes like you are experiencing. There are some stages in deep well where it wont reset but it sometimes will. On the bright side you can get unlimited early stage water with only the cost of a round stone. I suggest making cisterns and collecting the water each time before the reset. When you reach newcommen or engine stage with the well it does not reset.
Ok, good to know. It's not that big of a deal but it's a bit annoying.
Another tip, decay transitions only happen when the area is rendered. So say for example you died and you had a fire going, it would only transition to the next stage once the area is rendered. If its a small fire it would turn to hot coals, big fire would turn into a small fire next time you render the area. This can be useful for a variety of things that use timed transitions. Like roses for example. A rose seed would turn from pink to red the next time you logged in if its been more than an hour. Same for red to white. Additionally, you can cull regions by not rendering them for an extended period of time and they will reset back to their native state. This can be used to reset oil, iron, and other resources.
I've noticed that actually. Even when my server's shut down, things seem to decay. I don't bother making fur clothes for that reason, because the moment I log off, the next time I come back they're rubbish, even if I only had them for an hour while playing.
I'm wondering if there's a way to turn that off? It's super frustrating. I stopped playing one of my more advanced servers for like a month and when I came back to it, the whole town was gone. It was like it just reset (though I'm still not sure if that was because of natural decay, or something else.)
Anyway, thanks for the advice! Appreicate it.
Basically what the title says.
This is happening on my private server. Every time I die, the well that I dug loses a stone and reverts back to an unclaimed well site. I'm worried that if I make it into a deep well, it will do the same.
The only settings that I've changed are secondsPerYear and forceEveLocationX/Y, so I have no idea why this would happen. I've never had this problem before.
Any help on how to fix this would be appreciated!
In case anyone else comes across this issue, the answer is here: https://github.com/Awbz/OneLife/issues/147
Yeah i didn't see the server part till later ._.
But I knew a private server that kept the contents of the map the same with each update. I think he had to save the map data before each one, but he was able to keep the same map through multiple updates.
So I know its possible at least.
No worries.
It sounds like they had to redownload the whole server client and copy over a few select files that contained the server data? If I knew what files were necessary I could try. I'll try looking around.
Thanks!

I tried updating the server it the same way I would update the mod- by going into the game location and copying the updated files over the old ones. I downloaded it from https://github.com/Awbz/OneLife/release … Life+_v330 and chose OHOL+_v330 for windows.
The server runs fine when I play it on the un-modded file, but when I try to run it through my IP it says "version mismatch" and on my own modded version, the message "it looks like you updated the mod before downloading the latest game update. Use your un-modded client to update first". Not sure what I did wrong or even what I was supposed to do. Hope I didn't mess things up too bad.
If this is the wrong place to ask, would appreciate being directed to the proper place.
Thanks!
Well the only way that ever happened to me was downloading the mod first before the new update. I have the steam version though, so i just updated the game and it worked after. It just sounds like it didnt update just right.
Maybe delete, redownload everything from scratch, and try again. But this time do the mod last.
I have a lot of progress on my server so deleting it would not be ideal.

Yes, you HAVE TO close with ctrl c otherwise it will crash next time you open it.

You mean what to do in-game?
If yes, first make Well site, it will unlock you iron veins in west and east of it (up to 160 tiles, so if your place is very unlucky you could possibly get no iron veins). It will be your home. Make an adobe kiln then make some bowls and plates. Make a backpack, tools (first tools will be a shovel to finish the well and an axe to cut some trees and keep the fire going with firewood). Then it's up to you, you can farm, cook, make clothes, get a horse, make a sheep pen, upgrade the well...
Welp, I guess that was the problem.
Also that wasnt what I meant by not knowing what to do, but i appreciate you bringing that up. I couldnt find any iron laying around, aside from the iron veins. Am I just unlucky or was this what you meant by having to build a well site?
i am not sure but for me this looks like your database files got corrupted when you closed the server.
i think pressing CTRL+C to shut down the server is important.
database files have .db at the end
I'll try again and make sure I do that then. Is there a way that I can uncorrupt the db files though? I have a world I dont really want to lose at this point. Thanks
Hello! I've been trying to set up my own private server for testing on. I'm not tech-savvy whatsoever. I've followed multiple guides, downloading the win_full zip from https://github.com/Awbz/OneLife/release … Life+_v324 . I extract the file, I run runServer.bat as admin. I have no idea what soft links are, but when I do this I notice files that weren't there before appear, so I assume I don't need to do anything. I've tried this three separate times but the issues remain the same. The first run goes smoothly, but when I close, the second time I run it this comes up:
No lookTimes present, not cleaning map.db
Requested lineardb3 file map.db does not contain a whole number of 20-byte records. Assuming final record is garbage and truncating it.
Failed overwrite lineardb3 file map.db with truncation file map.db.trunc
Error 1 opening map KissDB
Press any key to continue . . .
I will admit, I forgot to press ctrl C to shut it down. Would that affect anything?
I've lost 6 hours of a world due to not knowing what to do. If anyone has any idea (and can explain it in dummy terms) I'd really appreciate it!
Also, is it possible to mod private servers? I tried copying the extracted mod files into the server folder though I'm not sure whether I should let it replace the duplicates or not.
Thanks!
