So, I started playing OHOL a few days ago because I've been watching Twisted's videos for about two weeks and needed to experience it for myself. So far, it's been absolutely addictive. I'm pretty useless outside of making pies and rabbit hunting in already established towns, but I enjoy that a lot so I don't mind helping in that way while I figure out the rest of the ropes.
But today, I had my absolute favorite play-through.
I was Fernando Quant, a humble rabbit farmer. As I said, cooking and rabbits are the only things I know well enough to do quickly and well, so even though there wasn't a huge need for more food, I decided to grab a horse and go for a rabbit run anyways. I ended up bringing back about 12 rabbits, and I felt pretty good about myself, but I still wasn't sure what else I could be doing to help at that point.
Enter Callem Quant, my second cousin three times removed. He was just a teenager at the time, but he told me he was going to go adventuring when he was older, and we made a pact to explore the world and find treasures in the ruins of long gone civilizations. For the time being, we discussed plans and ate berries until he was old enough to take the horse-drawn cart.
We set off adventuring and scoured ruins to try and find artifacts and supplies. We must have found six or so dead villages at different levels of decay. Not much to scavenge, but at one point we found a completely full carrot rack, and we took a few for the road. I saw more bears running around on horses than I ever have in this game. We must have run by at least seven bears within 2 minutes. At one point, I saw a bear roaming the jungle.
We ran until we reached the rift, and then ran some more.
At one point, we came upon a village from a recent play-through of mine.
I told him that I was born there to a woman who was alone, another Quant who for some reason was living on her own. I had a brother, and the village was just an oven and some scattered supplies, almost nothing. No berry field, nothing. Mother went off to go do something and told me to feed my brother, so I did. Soon though, the two berry trees nearby were exhausted, and my brother ran into the savannah in a panic trying to find food. I'm sure he died. I barely scraped by, having only been able to survive up to 23 by scavenging and eating from berry trees when I could find them in the wilds. Nobody would take me in as I spoke a different language from those in nearby towns and my mother hadn't named me. I died alone and abandoned.
I told him the gist of this; "I lived here in another life," "Mother left, died abandoned"
He said, "Well now you have an adventure buddy"
We continued to explore lost towns until we ended up back at the family village.
When we arrived, he found out he had a son and a daughter. By this time, I'd grown old. He told his son about our adventures and that when we was older, they would go adventuring too. In my old age, I tried to find a rubber ball to erase an old text and document our adventures, but to no avail. I asked him to do the honors and he agreed. He told me I would be remembered.
He sat me down on the bearskin rug inside of the kitchen and we looked towards the future of him and his son's adventures. Callem told me to sit down and relax in my old age, and he took care of me as I lay dying. We told his son he would be a hero, a protector of the village, an explorer, an adventurer. He said that he hoped he'd live up to our expectations and I said "Don't fret, you will"
Last words: "You will have many adventures"
